morning all,

I need to get temporary cover for driving a Morris 1000 1962 to surprise my cousin for her wedding. It's her baby so we want to get the car to the venue so she can drive away in it, without her knowing about it. No-one else is available to drive the car, they have jobs to do at the wedding etc. and we can't take it there before as she'll notice its missing.

The problem I have is that nearly every insurer passes off their temp cover to one company it seems (Temporary Cover Ltd) who don't offer insurance on this car, and my insurer wont add it as an additional car as it's not registered to me:bang:

Can anyone :help:

Have you checked your own policy ? Some insurers allowed you to drive a car that isn't "owned or leased" by you but it tends only to be 3rd party cover
 
Your own insurance (if you have it) should cover you for any other car (with a few exceptions).

This cover is usually conditional upon the car owner having his/her own insurance cover for the car.

What about getting it transportered? Shouldn't be more than £50 or so assuming it's not too far. That way you could "decorate" it in advance too :naughty:

Pretty sure that that cover only applies if you have prior permission from the owner of the car - and that's not going to make keeping the stunt a secret! IIRC, some commercial policies allow garages to drive vehicles without this specific permission but that's unlikely to be a cheap option.

I would do it anyway. The chances of the insurance actually being needed are very low and if you needed to prove insurance. e.g. requested by a police officer or in case of an accident, I'm sure the owner would co-operate!

Failing that, a trailer.

Bit of a bummer if you do get stopped by the police and the seize the car or you crash and don't have cover to drive someone else's car. Not all policies automatically include this feature nowadays - mine doesn't....
 
what about finding some kind of excuse to be added on to her policy as a named driver?

I'm ringing my insurers to see if I can get the driving other cars cover added to my main policy. Failing that it's time to see if anyone else can drive it
 
I saw an advert about temp insurance from 1 to 28 days, I think.
This is the site - I don't know if it's what you're after but it may be useful.

Try giving David Auden a call. speak to Jayne Auden, his daughter, as they do my rally car insurance. Not sure if they'll do it but worth a try and they seem to like obscurities and different insurance. My rally car is 1964 Imp so not much newer...

have you tried footman james ? they (used to anyway) do all the classic car policies.
 
Ta very much, tried footman james but over 25, tried david auden but he couldn't help, I'll try CIS but failing that its a no go :bang:

Another option might be to ring a local car recovery company to see if they can take it there for you.
 
I think that you will struggle because you are not the owner or RK and do not have permission to drive it.

Plus the car is already insured and they don't like multiple cover on a vehicle.

You want an excuse to get permission to drive it or to get her to put you on the insurance.
