With all this really cold weather going on at the moment i thought it would be nice to get up early and take some landscape pictures of the frozen terrian but i got thinking would the extreme temperature changes effect the camera equipment like condensation etc ie: going from a nice warm house to car then to location which would have been -3 this morning around 7am

any advice or tips as i'd like to get out while its freezing (i must be mad):cuckoo:

Keep your spare batteries warm by keeping them in an inside pocket.

When bringing kit back indoors leave it inside bags to warm up slowly without contact with warm air.

Fingerless gloves are useful, even better are those with tips that come off and fold back against the finger.

Keep wrapped up and warm in your TP fleece! :D

Warm to cold wouldn't have as much of an impact as the other way round, when you are more likley to see your lenses 'fog' with condensation. The journey in the car would normally mean your gear is acclimatised by the time you get it out to use it anyway.

The only thing you'd probably notice shooting in really cold weather (apart from the lack of feeling in your toes after a while!) will be a reduced battery life. If you carry spares (and you should in cold weather), keep them in an inside pocket somewhere on you rather than in the kit bag.

Will give you a slightly longer life from them as a result.

I left my camera out in the car, oops. The lenses steamed up when I brought everything in but it all cleared after a while, I think you'll be fine going from warm to cold though.

When I went out for a jaunt the other bloody cold day, It did not half suck the life out of the batteries very quickly !!!

cool  i think i'll give all the batteries a recharge just to make sure im not caught short :D

i leave the gear in a colder part of the house [my hall] to let them warm up slowly after the cold

i keep my spare battery in a inner pocket near my heart

Charged three 1700 mAh batteries last night for the sunrise shoot I did this morning (-6 degrees ): was out photographing for over 2 hours, and the battery indicator on my 5D was still showing full when I got back. Spare battery was in trouser pocket.
