I'm thinking of getting a teleconverter for my sigma 150-500. My question is will i lose image quality and if so would it be too much. Would it be worth the purchase.
Any advice please.

I've used a Kenko Pro300 DGX 1.4x converter on my Sigma 150-500 OS and it doesn't lose too much image quality but it does lose AF on my 5D3. You might just get some sort of AF on a 1D series that AF's up to f8 in good light if your lucky. With liveview you can get some great photos manually focussed but it needs a good tripod as well to help.

I've used a Kenko Pro300 DGX 1.4x converter as well on my D300S. It auto-focused but with quite a bit of hunting. You need really good light to get anything half descent.

Foshan, Thinking of trying to get some good "candid" shots of royals by any chance?

Thanks for the info Modchild im now thinking of saving for the canon 100-400l lens with converter. Hopefully i will get better image quality.

Nobody would print them lol. No i am into bird photography and just want to get a bit closer to the subject.

I had a Canon 100-400 L which I was able to AF with when coupled with the Kenko TC. It was a little bit slower to focus but not much and the IQ wasn't highly impacted either. I had that on a 550D, 7D and 5D2, which are all f5.6 limited so there should be no reason why it wouldn't work with your 30D.

Thanks for that Stuart i think its time to start saving. What size was your Kenko TC.

@foshan, You are like risking the image quality if you decided to use a teleconverter in your camera. Only expert or highly experienced photographer have the knowledge and skills to use this equipment properly. Since you love birds, I know that there will be other options to get you closer to your prospect.
