Yes
Right my Missis bought me a 42ins tele with a bracket but my question is the only wall I can put it on really is over a boarded over fireplace (plasterboard) I know you can get plasterboard fixings but are they strong enough to hold a tele up .

Plasterboard fixings are if no use at all for a TV. As stated you need to hit wood or stone.

you should cut out some plasterboard and fix some timber to get a solid fixing
this is what the tv installer does on the new builds i have worked on
when you tighten up the bolts that hold the bracket to the wall they just crush into the plasterboard

Dont put it above the fireplace it way to high. Tv should be eye level when sitting on the sofa.

Sell it and get something less ridiculous that actually suites purpose. ;)

A 42" screen is fine for a viewing distance between of around 6-10ft so would probably be OK in most living rooms although I agree that mounting above a fireplace would be too high.

Seen it done in other people's houses and it makes for uncomfortable viewing.

There seems to be a train of thought that because TVs *can* be mounted on a wall they *have* to be mounted on a wall

I used to have my 43 on a sideboard that was probably about fireplace height and never found it uncomfortable to view. Got it on a corner unit now that's still above eye level and still all okay.

Personal preference and all that.

for old walls use chemical bond and some threaded bar cut to length. It sorts out loose bricks and will not come out. Ive put xrays on walls in dental surgeries and it works 100% Kodak advises this on there installs so it must be good lol

Just put my new 60' on the wall - best thing we did to it, looked at various heights, but as stated you really don't want it too high - think the top is only 4 1/2 ft off the floor & that is plenty high enough.

How light is the TV - KG, whats the thickness of the plasterboard - how many anchor points are in your wall frame - lots of variables to consider.
