I like it, but than again I'm loving derelict places at the moment so I kindof like the dark and decaying brickwork.

I quite like the bricks at the bottom, but like Tina I think you could crop out the turf.

like it! i'm a sucker for symmetry! Agree with the need to crop the bottom of it, slightly distracting

A good take on the theme with plenty of detail.

I seem to be in the minority about cropping the bottom off. I think the base gives the building an anchor within the frame. It does seem a bit claustrophobic though. I would like to see a wider view showing more of the architecture, perhaps in landscape?

Andy

Cheers for the comments, now that I have posted the image can I change it or will that use one of my re-shoot cards?

OK, here is my week 2 - New. I'm a bit slow as my bloody car cost loads to fix and I had to sell my D300 body to pay for it. I have now picked a D70 up to tide me over. SO got it yesterday and took this shot this morning. Shot at ISO 1600 by mistake.. This is my take on NEW.

Nothing gets much newer than a vapour trail

Week 3 - Style - Nothing says style like a Tag Heuer

Week 4 - Open - wide open view

untitled-14-1.jpg

Week 6 - Clutter - too many balls!! 200 in total!

Welcome back. ;)

Week 3 - Wow, I love this. Apart from the reflection on the face, I can't find a fault with this, and it would look quite at home inside a magazine.

Week 4 - I like the style of this, but wonder if the foreground isn't perhaps a little too dark? If that was lightened up a bit, I think I would really like this.

Week 5 - Great idea, and fantastic colour. Those 3 dented balls are really annoying, though. :(

Good work catching up, I know what it's like to fall behind a few weeks, but keep at it!

Thanks for the positive comments, shot week 3 with a westcott apollo to light it, down at f/18 to make everything else go black. Week 4, this is nearly as shot from camera, almost looks B&W. Week 5, nearly all of them are dented!! just shot tonight after I did the watch, turned round to see the ball pit and thought..CLUTTER..

Hi Adam,

Just looking through your 52 and I think you've coneyed the themes very well.

Week 3 - 'Style' - Brilliant 'studio' shot, really nice watch (I'm not jealous :P) and the lighting is perfect, how did you do it? Really nice and sharp too.

Week 4 - 'Open' - Really like the darkness of this image - very dramatic. Even though the horizon is in the middle rather than using the 'rule of thirds', I think it works well as the foreground is nice and sharp, love the slight reflection in the water at the bottom in the middle; and the clouds and background add to the feel of the scene.

Week 6 - 'Clutter' - Great vibrance of colours and definitely conveys clutter! I like the reflections too. Maybe by including more balls in the photo it would have further emphasised the clutter and the large amount of balls (since there were 200!)? Just nit picking though :)

Week 5 - 'Hard' - I love the caption for this, definitely looks hard to open. Very crisp and clear and like the colours.

Week 7 - 'Delicate' - Great shot, with a really good depth of field and nice blurry background.

Week 9 - 'Finish' - Good idea to communicate the theme

Keep up the good work :)

Will :D.

Hi Will,

Thanks for the comments, I shot the watch on a bit of dark green velvet, I had a 28" Westcott apollo lighting it from 45 degs. I closed the shutter to F16 to minimize the light hitting the watch and then tweaked the blacks in lightroom to remove the unwanted light..

I shot all the shots with my wee 18-50mm f2.8 Sigma, its a great wee lens and give super sharp results, It's a keeper..

Week 8 - Chaos

DSC_0547-Edit-1.jpg

Looks chaotic to me!!!

Week 10 - Trio

This is a shot of three tree stumps left in the local park I walk in every lunchtime. The council recently sold the land to a school who are putting all weather pitches on the parkland. They have just cut down hundreds of trees..

This is whats left

Hi Adam

Beautiful shot of the Crocus , lovely colors & like where you got the focus:thumbs:

Your write up for Trio makes me quite sad...we should be preserving our tree's , not cutting them down for all weather pitch's ! Nice take on the theme but not sure about the focus point?

Thanks, yeah I'm an Architect and am constantly fighting with planners about removing single trees which we are replacing.. then they allow the council to sell land and remove hundreds of trees without notice!!

Week 11 - Knowledge.

My certificate for the RIBA.. took 7 years at uni to get that bad boy!!

Hiya Adam,

Yet again I stumble across a Photo52 thread that I haven't visited yet, so I apologise for taking so long to visit and will do a quick catch up:

Week 1: Agree with the comments made by others, especially cropping the turf, but I like the brickwork which compliments the rest of the structure.

Week 2: Have to agree with the idea for New and considering you took the photo with your 'new' camera fits the theme too. As an image it doesn't really inspire me, but then that is probably because I often see so many vapour trails in the sky above where I live. Not a bad image though to notice the dust bunnies on either your lens or sensor :p

Week 3: Love this shot and indeed style. Only crit would be the light reflection between 150 and 200.

Week 4: Yep I get the wide open view. Think the image is a tad dark and would perhaps benefit from a bit of a colour pop to enhance the blue between the clouds to just add a bit of oomph to the image.

Week 5: Love the colours here, but think I would have cropped out the sky.

Week 6: The colours are lovely and vibrant. Have to agree about the dented balls being a bit distracting though. Also wonder if the image would look better with the light reflections cloned.

Week 7: Once again lovely colours, perhaps a lower angle and a bit of a shallower DOF, but still getting the inside of the flower would improve the image.

Week 8: Wow the colours in your photos are fantastic. and I like the lower angle at which you have shot this to get the great DOF with the focus on the centre flowers.

Week 9: Clever idea for the week and a nice image to go with it too.

Week 10: Oh dear, what a pity they are cutting down trees for the reasons you stated, make me sad. With the image, it would be interesting to see this as a b&w conversion, mainly because the sky is over exposed and perhaps that would be remedied with b&w, also would add to the feel of the image.

Week 11: Wow that is quite an achievement  I can now understand why you photos all seem just about perfect with the horizonal being straight, especially the level of attention to detail you put into week 1. I like the angle at which you have taken this shot, my only nit pick is the red reflection lower left.

Wow I have enjoyed looking at your pics for the weeks and now that I have your thread tagged I should be able to keep up with the rest of your project.

Keep up the good work, and well done for catching up too.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Week 12 - Moderation

Try having these in moderation, just made by me 30 mins ago, still slightly warm...

Drodd, many thanks for the above comments. I appreciate the time you spent looking at my photos and writing about them. :-)

Now, now, that is not 'moderation' that is 'torture'

They look absolutely delish and I could chomp on all right now :D

Love the DOF and the use of shadow in this pic.

Well done

Cheers

Thanks, shot with my 18-50mm at f2.8 & 1/60, SB-800 about 4ft away on top of fridge 1/16 power..

Drat :bang: wish I was at your work tomorrow :p Now that would be something to go to work for ..... me thinks my work are doing something wrong in my case

Fortunately I don't like sausage rolls but I have to say that is a VERY enticing image. Not sure it says 'Moderation' :thinks:

Oh believe me ... as a lover of sausage rolls (especially such scrumptious looking ones in the photo) one has to practice moderation ..... you know the old saying 'a moment on the lips a lifetime on the hips' .....

D :D

oh indeed it is moderation, I'm in work and have eaten one already.. trying to resist any more..

Hi Adam, wow you caught up quick! I'm in the process of playing catch up now and am struggling to come up with decent ideas.

Week 1: Nice shot but I'd liked to have seen the inside of the building more to get across the point that it's a botanic garden. Too dark to see anything there.

2: I'm not too taken by this image but is well composed imo.

3: I think this is great. Maybe slightly too much reflection? Very stylish indeed.

4: Nice detail in the clouds. Like it.

5: Nice moody shot. I might have tried to desaturate the blue and darken the sky a bit to give it even darker feel.

6. The WB seems too warm and the dented ball bothers me a little, but a nice colourful photo.

7. Doesn't do much for me sorry. Shallow dof makes it seem soft and the whole image looks a bit too dark.

8. Great idea. Nice composition. I like how you only showed the screen and not the body of the phone.

9. Your chaos photo is lovely. Nice mix of colours.

10. Nice subject. Maybe a tighter crop would benefit?

11. Congrats on your hard work :) The red reflection (?) spoils the photo a bit though.

12. That looks lovely yum. Personally I'd have used a tad more DOF to get more of it in focus as it has a lot of details to show off. A bit of curves adjustment and fill light would make the image pop out a bit more imo.

High quality work! Looking forward to seeing your 52.

Ok, another blitz at the remaining ones.

Week 13 - Empty

A couple of benches on my lunchtime walk. Never really see anyone sitting in them.

Week 14 - Object

OK, this is a quick funny shot I took of my son (with my iphone 3GS).. Object could either be the Simpson Helmet or could also be my son.. Object of my affection.. or the STIG..

Week 15 - Wrong

This follows on from my Trio shot in week 10. This is now what's left of an area of park after the local school cut down over 200 trees to make way for gravel pitches.

Empty

I had a similar idea, I like your composition but there is a slight blue cast so I'd suggest white balance? I'm also unsure whether such a large aperture has helped the focus?

Object

I'm sorry to say your phone has blown the light areas including the helmet

Wrong

I agree with you that such a sight is wrong, again, I feel the large aperture has prejudiced against sharp focus.

Well done getting up to date

Hiya Adam,

Well done on all three counts .... which all fit the bill spot on.

Especially like Empty .... definitely gives that feel.

Love the mini 'Stig', although the whites look a tad blown, but such a cute pic .... especially those crocs :D

As for wrong .... well indeed that is so WRONG! How dare they cut down so many trees :bat:

Well done on a fantastic set.

Cheers

Dawn :)

What a great Empty shot! The background is fantastic, it looks painted. Very well exposed.

Thanks for the comments. I had my nifty fifty on, so was playing with my DOF, maybe it was too shallow.

Hi Adam, quite like your photograph for empty, but is that a person I can see in the background... Well done on catching up.

Cheers, that is one of three large wooden sculptures in the park..
