Yes
My partner has a problem with her 300D.

It has all of a sudden stopped working.....but only when the CF card is inserted.

When the card is removed the camera starts up as usual but obviously with the message no CF card.

when you swithch on with the CF card inserted the only thing on the LCD display is EOS.

I have tried another card in the 300 and also tried her card in my 20D and they both appear to be ok.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be

Many thanks
Sean

No Ideas? :(

I have tried another card in the 300 and also tried her card in my 20D and they both appear to be ok.
Can you clarify that, Sean?

Card "A" in 300D .... doesn't work.
Card "A" in 20D .... does work?
Card "B" in 300D .... not sure what you're saying here.

all cards work in the 20 d

when you insert any card in the 300 you get nothing
when you turn on the 300 with no cards inserted all is well

does that make sense?

if there are bent pins can these be repared easily or would it need to go for repair

Thanks all for yr help so far

Many thanks
Sean

I agree it's probably a bent pin.

Look at the end of a CF card and you'll see two rows of small holes. Look into the CF slot on your camera and right down the far end you'll see two rows of small pins. You should be able to see, with a magnifying glass perhaps, whether any of them are bent. It wouldn't be a difficult/expensive repair, with the right tools. But I don't think I could do it myself.

Thanks guys on closer inspection it does look like a bent pin, got a rough price of £140 to repair at london camera exchange so going to have a go myself :(

Might be in the market for a cheap canon for the missus in the very near future :bonk:

Robbing ********

did seem expensive, have tried to straighten pin and ok till you take card out and re insert it so looks like i will have to send it for repair......anyone got any recomendations for a good cheap camera repair shop as LCE seems a bit excessive........

Sean

I'd put the £ 140 towards a newer body.

I agree with Andrew, you'd be better sticking the 300 up on Fleabay and declaring the fault and then take whatever you get and adding it to the £140 you were going to spend at LCE. You probably wouldn't be far off the price of a new 1000D....

you can pick up another 300D Body For That And Sell The Old One As Spares or something

I have noticed on a few card readers (Sandisk) it is possible to put the card in on the slant so the pins do not align with the card sockets. Not noticing this you can be bending the pins.
