A colleague has just purchased a new JVC camcorder and in the instruction book it lists battery life for "actual recording time" as 50 mins and "continuous recording time" 90 mins.

Can someone possible tell me what the difference is as I think 50mins is a little short in this day and age.

Thanks all.

Thom

The "actual recording time" I guess includes use of zoom and other functions. Dunno why they didn't call "continuous" the "maximum recording time, under ideal conditions" (which would include temperature).

I was thinking that but then I couldn't understand how they could give a time for 'actual' as that would depend on how much you used the zoom and so forth and whether you closed the screen during recording. It's an odd system I feel. I guess she'll find out when she tries using it properly.

thanks for the info though it did confirm my initial thoughts.

"Recording with many starts and stops, frequent zooming, and recording in low temperatures will somewhat shorten actual recording time. Accordingly, be sure to turn off the power when not recording."

As ever, a case of "your mileage may vary".

thanks Photon, like I said earlier I can't see how they can give a time for 'actual' because if you're careful like you say and turn off or don't use zoom it'll vary.
