Do you think Lapsong Souchong, Darjeeling or a fragrant tea would be best for a 13" Macbook. Because I'm damned sure this bog-standard English Breakfast tea isn't doing it any good :( :'(

Here's some free advice, don't try to clean it by putting it in the bath. My boss tried this to clean an IBM Model M keyboard, the results were not good.

My Mrs tried a full mug of drinking chocolate in the VAIO, six months later and it's still working fine... after being stripped down, cleaned and dried out. The keyboard had to have a good washout but hey I was surprised it came back to life at all let alone works fine.

Mrs Bloo, faffing about on facebook, sitting on the bed with a cup of tea in hand. Stoopid cat (most stoopid of our five cats) leaps onto the bed to be friendly and headbutts the tea....

:bang:

I tried to open it up. The 23rd and last mini-screw just wouldn't move. So it's spending the night in the airing cupboard but my inclination in the morning is to read the small-print in various insurance policies.

:( Hope it is ok in the morning John....

If not I imagine a cat near you may not get fed for a while....

Some of the screws are locktited in.

Best of luck matey... and if not I hope the insurance people sort you out quicksharp.

I found this on Mac Forums

Looks like they have an official "I spilt something on my Mac" thread.

It's 13 pages long so it looks like it's not unusual even.

You might find something here that may help

If you take sugar with it (how vulgar!) it will only make matters worse. Suggest you stick to non-carbonated pure mountain spring-water, and don't forget your mantra.. "I will not spill this drink today..."

So long as it is not Earl Gray:puke: I am wrestling with mixed fruit Jam at the moment

I haven't touched ANY tea since I was about 13. And that's after spending 23 yrs with the greatest tea drinking institution in the world.

It's an early 08 model so I'm hoping for an insurance payout to subsidise a new purchase. It's covered on two policies. Under the household policy they want to send out a sub-contractor to take it away and determine if it is knacked or not - and replace it if it is. I also have a home office policy so I'll be checking with them Monday morn to see what their procedures are.

Does anyone have recent experience of how insurance companies handle claims involving small tech items? re repair/replacement/payment? Thanks

Switched on and it sort of muddles through. Keyboard totally badgered. The battery isn't seen and it neither charges nor powers the macbook - but it runs from mains.

An insurance company sub-contractor will be collecting it :'(

Will take it away and no doubt determine that the cost to repair will be uneconomical so your insurance will probably agree on an amount to payout. Or you may be lucky and have a new for old policy on your house insurance so will get a nice shiny new laptop to play with.

Take out the battery and the Harddrive and flush it with bottled water.

Then leave it in the airing cupboard for 7 to 10 days

Then put it back and hope for the best.

seriously if it was on when the spillage occurred then junk it (via the insurance obviously), theres no telling what damage may rear its head in X days/weeks down the line due to shortage of various circuits. at the very least youre looking at reduced system lifespan.
