My husband just rung me up and told me that on his way back from Sussex, he stopped at a roadside tea place for a cuppa.
The guy in front had a sausage sandwich and a cup of tea...when he asked how much, the owner pointed to a board on the wall which read: Eat what you like, drink what you like, pay what you like" He couldnt believe it.

When my husband went to pay for his mug of tea, the guy said "nah, dont worry......give something if you want, otherwise dont bother. I came into this world with nothing and I'll go out with nothing"!

Amazing!!!! Absolutely true story!

Nice story!

As long as the board did not also say "catch what you like!"

Huh ... He's been reading about that inheritance tax stuff ... :D

Is nice to hear good stuff like that occasionally ... to many after far too much from those who have far too little generally ...

:p

Brilliant idea!

Never mind "Widnae happen in Aberdeenshire", it wouldnt happen in our staff canteen ...

Certainly never heard that one before, Nice gesture.:)

Fab story Janice ...
It must be a trend here in the "Soft South" - I went to a new restaurant in Camberley (High Street) recently called "So Asia" which specialises in Chinese (& some Indian) cuisine - All meals are buffet style so you help yourself until you've eaten enough - at lunchtime this is £6.50 & in the evening £11.50 - but when you read the menu it says "if you don't think the food or service was any good then we don't expect you to pay"
... I wonder how long it will be before the local pond life take advantage of this :cuckoo: - rumour has it as the restaurant is owned by an ex Ghurka the staff have a Khukri (machete) or two handy to "persuade" you that you did really enjoy your meal

One of my local pubs (an Irish bar) sells steak meals in the evening... "the time you eat is the price you pay" - so the earlier the meal, the cheaper it is!

It would be great if Jessops adopted the same policy. :D

that's pretty cool. :) I'd like to run a place like that some day.

Just an update on this story.,........... Roger was going by there again today, so he called in to make sure he wasnt dreaming last time!
He ordered a cup of tea and the guy put it on the table and put a 10p piece down next to it and said, "Don't bother paying for the tea and you take that too mate.... Ive had a good day"!

What a lovely guy in this horrid day and age!!

i bet hes just been finished and on his last week..sweet revenge for the boss.

Really sounds too good to be true but very refreshing to hear such stories..:)

What a nice person. Like the others said, what a refreshing change in this day and age. Bet I'm not the only one who (I'm ashamed to say) thought what's the catch, but that's what the world does to us.
