TC

For that lens you'll need to look to Kenko's excellent Pro 300 DG range.

They will work fine.

You cannot physically mount a Nikkor 1.4x or 1.7x TC-E / TC-E II to that lens, its for AF-S lenses, it doesn't even have a screwdrive AF pass-through.

Kenko only do a 1.4x or 2.0x - they don't make a 1.7x.

I have read a few different opinions on whether a teleconvertor will work with the Nikon 80-200 f2.8 AFD, anyone actually using a TC on this lens--Nikon or other type.

If so would the same TC ( 1.4 or 1.7 ) work with a Nikon 300 f4

I have (the Kenko Pro DG 1.4x one that puddleduck mentions),I didn't like it.

Puddleduck seems to achieved better results than I did (I've also seen it produce great results on a 70-300 VR, but at 1600 iso and in California, where I believe they have something called "sunshine") but for motorsport I didn't find it useful, neither did either of the other two motorsport 'togs I know that had them - they both got rid of theirs as well.
