when using a reporting TC should it/does it report back the drop from f/2.8 to f/4 for example?

the reason i ask is that i used a mates 1.5 Kenko DG extender and the camera reported the same f2.8
the exif also stated this aswell as no increase in focal length.

is this normal?

If you use a reporting TC then it reports both the adjusted focal length and the adjusted aperture correctly.

For example this shot was taken using a Canon 500mm f/4 L IS wide open and a 2x Extender. You'll see that the EXIF data correctly reports 1000mm f/8.

i take it the kenko is non reporting then!
i was just curious thats all - was testing the image drop in a convertor and im impressed - very little on the 1.5x TC

Nikon 300 F4 with 1.7tc reports back as F6.7, however, the 600 with a 1.4 does not, guess it depends on the TC,Lens, body or all three.........

Edit.....the 600 is an old M/F so you can guess why it does not report back.
