Tax on chocolate

Makes sense to me, they could tax ready meals, crisps and other junk food while they're at it. Oh and fast food places like, McD, KFC, Pizza Hut etc...

Although there are lots of people who like to cook thanks to all the cooking shows on TV there is are still people who think a good home cooked meal is fish fingers, chips and beans :p

I used to work at the Pizza hut on Mutley Plain in Plymouth and the two largest demographics that ordered were students and families on benefits in council houses (Swilly, Devonport, Keyham etc.). Students fair enough as everyone knows they eat garbage but families feeding kids garbage on a regular basis is wrong IMO, especially when an order can easily come to £20+ and they are on benefits.

well they need to tax something popular and addictive to replace the dwindling tax revenue from cigarettes... Chocolate is easier to collect tax on than sex eh? :D
 
Reading news like this makes me feel fed up. And when I get fed up, I turn to chocolate . . . .
. . . Well, that's me screwed then. :D
Why not tax air? The government as well go the whole hog and do it.
But being serious, I eat a LOT of chocolate, but I don't put on a single ounce (I'm 11 and a half stones) and I don't seem to get that ill a lot. So, therefore, in my eyes (and my own opinion) this is just another pathetic attempt by the government by looking as though they really do care for our health and well-being, when in actual fact it's just another excuse to raise revenue. It's like, you'll never win no matter who is in power.
Like for instance, they've reduced VAT ever so slightly . . . whoppee! . . . then they think about slapping extra tax on chocolate. Smart move.

Now I'm depressed . . . where's that flake bar?

I'd prefer a tax on sex as being married i'd be paying chuff all :bonk:

I think a tax on chocolate would work though, I was in the services today, went to pick a twirl up, saw it was 73p so came out without it.

If it was that price everywhere i'm sure it'd put people off buying it
 
Chocolate tax thing has been dumped.
I object to some plonker deciding what is good for me and what isn't then bumping the price up just to make me obey his wishes.
It's a great way of fuelling the black market.
Last twice I was in Glasgow I was approached by someone with a carrier bag full of cigarettes asking if I wanted to buy cheap tobacco.

Same, i'm a light build and can eat as much as i like without fear of putting on wieght. This crap is just like 'green' taxes....if i want to buy a big car and let it drink petrol then that's up to me.....its the chinese and americans ruining the climate anyway, Britain contributes naff all to the CO2 emissions.

And the VAT thing i disagree with, sure a TV is now like £5 cheaper but i'm not going to rush out and get one based on that but i'm sure than 2.5% is costing the government a massive amount in lost revenue.
 
Have these sad gits got nothing better to do that try to make peoples lives boring,first it was Fags then Drink now Chocolate what next.
We will all end up dour and sour faced,now which Scotsman does that remind me of

Think long term, They've reduced the VAT but it has to be recouped at some point so when the economy picks up they'll increase it to 20%, once they do do you think it'll EVER come back down to 17.5%
 
they should tax chewing gum - it makes a mess of the streets and is a swine to get rid of
