Do members think that if a model sports a tattoo it actually ruins the overall image?

Tattoos ? i don't have any tatts :shrug: and i don't hava problem looking at someone who has them, can't see any possible reason why anyone would be against someone photo with one on ones body, earings, jewlery, make-up it's all part of ones character jmo :thumbs:
 
I have them too, that sort of thing happens when you grow up in a navy town...

I wish I hadn't, but it's too late now. However, I personally don't like them on women, don't know why, I just don't... :shrug:

Well if its only a little tattoo it wouldn't bother me but i cannot stand women who are coated in tattoos. It just looks wrong, maybe its because most women i have seen with tattoo's look rougher then sand paper!
 
I don't have any tattoos, and it is up to the person if they want them or not, but...........

Why do so many women who want to model have tattoos? A woman without tattoos can do (almost) any modeling assignment, but a woman with tattoos finds her market smaller (I wouldn't want to employ a model with tattoos, and if I had to use a model with tattoos, I would have to remove them in PS).

Just my personal view, so don't shot me!
 
i am a model and i have tattoos. i love them and wouldnt change them.
However, I got them not knowing i was going to do modeling. If i had of then i wouldnt have got them especially on my body but alot of photographers do like them. they make the person who they are and they are art!

I'm for Tatt's as long as they are tasteful.
 
Tats are great,they can show an individuals personality,and there path in life..

Personally, I think tattoos are awful and do nothing to enhance a womans femininity. Just add shovel nails for complete yuk.

If I was to hire a model, though unlikely, I would have to consider after reading this thread whether the model had tattoos or not. It wouldn't have entered my head to check. It would obviously depend on the type of pictures that were planned of course. It doesn't matter if there are tattoos on legs and body if only head and shoulder shots are planned. That said, if a model was full of tattoos apart from head and shoulders, you're limiting anything spontaneous happening other than the shots you have planned for. :shrug:

I'm not a fan of tattoos (or piercings), and unless the picture is making a feature of them, then they detract and distract in the final image imho most of the time. I have nothing against anyone having tattoos or piercings, but for a model I find it odd to limit what work may be available to you by altering a 'blank canvas' so to speak, unless you are aiming for a niche market.
 
I am a new member and I have a tattoo, I love wizards and have one on my left shoulder it is about 6" ish in length but I do not like women who are sleeved and cannot cover them up.

It’s really the same answer as to questions like:

“What lens should I use?”
Or,
“Should I take the shot in bright sunshine or at midnight?”

The answer is all about what you are trying to say with your image.

I have tattoos, and personally I think they look great on women, but they do need to be something tasteful.. something feminine.

I have an amazing picture of a women with sleeves and she is amazing. And tattoos like this just blow me away:

But I dont like tattoos on girls wrists.. my tattoos where designed so they could be hidden.. as they arnt everyones cup of tea, but on the wrist its almost impossible to hide.
 
A small, subtle tattoo is OK with me - hidden out of sight as much as possible. But it doesn't usually stop there - people have a tendency of getting "just one more", and another, and another... :)
 
I've seen a postman in the Croydon area who has a spiders web tattoo on his face!
 
Tattoo's are addictive, ive been wanting to get another one for a long time now.. but decided to take it easy as:

1: Its expensive
2: I only have so much skin
 
I once had the misfortune to see a bare chested man sporting a tattoo of a nude woman laying back, legs apart, you can probably guess what his belly button was :(
 
I am a model, I have tattoos. I love them, and I feel your skin is a canvas that you only have 1 lifetime to use. However, there is such a thing as tacky, and there is such a thing as too far.
 
I had a tattoo back when i was in the army. I don't regret it and i still like it. The reason? i chose something from a subject that I liked since i was a kid, it was my own design, and, even though it's not small, it's on my shoulder-blade so it's not something that i cannot hide. But I am a dude.

As for women, i do see the art in it, and there were a lot of occasions when i was amazed by the beauty of some tattoos on women, but, having a tattoo that would fit on a 5' by 3' canvas on a woman's back is not something i consider neither sexy nor appealing.
 
I had a small daisy chain tatoo on my toe thinking if i ever did grow out of it, it wouldn't bother me there....ten years on it looks like a grubby mark from when you take a plaster off! My best friend had a swallow (the bird) on her back and she says it looks like a pair of plyers.....

PS don't tell my Mum, i would get such a big "TOLD YOU SO!"
 
I think tattoos and photography/modelling depend on the context. There's a set on here from someone shooting a '34 Ford with a model and I thought the tatoos really suited the style. Put the same model and tatoos in a different scene, say a Laura Ashley catalogue shoot with some sleevlesspaisley dresses and I think the tatoos wouldn't fit.

I want a tatoo but I'm so hairy even if I put it somewhere visible you wouldn't be able to see it so it'd be a waste of money.

I've just had my third tattoo, a set of angel wings on my left wrist just as a reminder that I will be fine when I have my kidney transplant and they mean so much to both me and my wife.

Tattoo's look fantastic in the right context IMO.

You don't qualify whether you mean a male model or a female model or do you mean both?

As far as I'm concerned, I think they are great! It depends on the kind of image that you want to produce. If I think of a kind of industrial setting or using something more unusual as a background, sheet plastic or sheet steel for example, then a tattoo would not be out of place and can actually add a lot to the image.

If the image was intended to be a lot softer then I find it's not too difficult at all to change the pose, angle of shooting or introduce some sort of fabrics if you really don't want it in shot. What you do have to remember however is that the tattoo is actually part of your model. He/she has had it put there for a reason and to try to cover it up/remove it is saying that you don't approve of their actions. So you have to deal with that very sensitively.

At the end of the day a tattoo is just another body modification, it's decorative, like pierced ears and enhanced breasts are in the western world.

I think tattoo's on models, all depends on what style of photography you are going for, and whether or not those tattoo's have a place in your photograph.
I did a tattoo set which can be viewed on flickr and luckily I knew the right type of people to go and get the photographs I wanted espectially this one.

I would love to photograph a girl with some bold, bright, beautiful tattoo's and we're talking sleeves etc....some really funky hairstyle and big bold make-up! I'd have so much fun :) but on OTHER styles of images it just doesnt work!!!

I would figure out what type of image look you were going for, then look at the models portfolio before I booked her for the job. Amature or not.


Oh and btw I have 5 - my latest is writing inside my wrist, which is latin for "everything happens for a reason"
