My Tamron 70-200mm has developed a fault. It all meters fine and camera and lens appear to be communicating fine in terms of exposure but the focusing has gone haywire. Sometimes it'll auto focus, tracking moving subjects, other times it just wont focus at all and it does nothing. Other times it rams the focus to infinity and then the camera makes a clicking sound as it tries to focus. In the viewfinder, even though the camera is set to AF or AF-S the viewfinder is telling me I've selected manual focus when I haven't. Also when I turn the camera off and back on the camera thinks it has a pre Pentax-A lens on it and asks for the focal length so it can set the correct shake reduction.
Putting the camera in manual focus and pulling the lenses own focusing collar back to MF allows me to keep shooting.

At first I thought it was the camera but I've tried all my other lenses and they all work perfectly so it is localised to this lens.

It's not been banged or bumped either which is frustrating, its been sat in my camera bag with the rest of my gear under the stairs where its cool and dry and away from my twin toddlers !

Cleaning the contacts on the lens and camera has done nothing.

So I've read that Tamron UK repairs are undertaken by Intro 2020.

Can I ask if anyone recently has had a lens repaired with Tamron or Intro 2020 and also the cost of the repair

Thanks

I think you have to specifically register for the 5 year warranty. You don't get it as standard. Maybe the best option is to call them and ask for a price range of the cheapest and most expensive fix that might be applicable here to give you a ballpark figure.

Had dealings with them once for an old manual Tokina lens which came apart in my hands so to speak. Despite the fact that it was well nigh obsolete, they repaired, tested and fitted new rubber grips for a modest sum which included return carriage. I would contact them with a preliminary enquiry and see what they say.

Thanks for the replies, I just called them now....useless !!!

They wouldn't commit to any costs, any estimates, the most expensive it could be, the cheapest it could be - nothing !
They didn't even want to know what lens it was or what the fault was either, just fill the form in, send it in and we'll get back to you.

thats exactley what i had from them when i phoned about sorting out my tamron 17-50vc i think it might be cheaper for me to just bin it :lol:

TBH, nobody would commit to costs over the phone, unless they are ridiculously high. If you want it fixed, first they have to find out exactly what has gone wrong and to do that, they will obviously need the lens in front of them.

FYI, when I sent a lens to them they checked it and got back to me very quickly.

Cheers for the reply ;)

When I said they wouldn't commit to any prices I was asking them for rough costs or min / max prices and made it clear I wasn't going to hold them to any prices but I just wanted a ball part figure but they were having none of it!

Agree with asking for ballpark figures. You're not asking how much YOUR lens will cost, just to get an idea of what range you're talking about. It's not hard to say that it can be as little as £30 or so much that it's a write-off. I wouldn't trust somewhere that wouldn't help me with an enquiry like that.

A mate just had his 24-70 f/2.8 VC repaired by Tamron (or Intro 2020).
It took them almost 4 weeks and charged him £300 for the pleasure.
The zoom ring broke, probably his fault for forcing it when the lock was on, but thats was a lot of money and more than wiped out the saving he made by buying from DR (he lost the warranty card so couldn't claim apparently)
