TAMRON SP TELE MACRO 90mm F/2.5 ADAPTALL 2 mount Lens. Any good?

I don't normally deal with legacy lenses. Too much hassle and modern lenses are so superior to most of them that it seems silly to bother. Plus it's hard finding a decent one, then there's the hassle with adapters and manual operation. I left all that behind in the film age!!!

But, there's always a but....
I just fancy trying my hand at a bit of this macro stuff. Don't want to spend £1200 or so on the new Fuji 80mm. It is only a passing fancy so minimal expense. I have lights and brackets etc., So just need a lens. Reckon I need min 90mm to give me a good distance from the critters without frightening them off.

I've been offered the above Tamron which is supposedly in good nick. £100. Anyone know anything about this lens? Any problems to look out for? Think it's Olympus mount, but can't see that there will be an Adaptall fitting for Fuji X so and adaptor will be needed.

So any comments from anyone? Go for it or steer clear? Will it be readily saleable once I've scratched this itch?
 
One of the best Tamron Adaptall 2 lenses, and a very fair price, actually.
There's a 2x converter that goes with it which is normally about £40 if I remember correctly.

There should be a dedicated Flickr page for it.
 
Yup, it's a lovely lens and also nice rendering for portraits. I've seen adaptall to fuji adapters on eBay before. Definitely worth a go and the price is about right.

It's now been ordered, and paid for.
I've also found an adaptor that is also on its way to me.
The investment is about right for an experiment and as the lens has such a good reputation I should be able to recoup my costs if I decide to sell up.

They're not going down in value, you should get 100% back, more if you can find the matched tele convertor.

I've had a cursory look for the TC but no luck so far. But it's Saturday night and its well past beer o'clock!!!! I'll have a more determined search tomorrow.

There's one attached to a 90mm, no single ones though at the moment. Just have a look every now and then, just in case :)
 
From the photos I've seen it doesn't appear to be one on there. But I'll check. I might just be lucky.
 
The lens is 2:1 but full 1:1 magnification can be achieved with the 018F extension tube. or with the 01F 2x teleconverter.

I have a set I bought years ago which consists of the lens (mint), hood, case, some backing cards and the extension tube all in a gift box
 
Be careful with this lens. There are two versions, and one has a flat rear element which picks up reflections somehow. This leaves a purple splodge in the image, which becomes more defined as you stop down.

This was definitely the case when I was using a DSLR, not sure if the issue was mirror related.
 
I have the 90mm sp since about 1990, cracking lens, I still use it on my Canons. At one time this is the lens they compared other lens too on testing machines they were that good.

Lens arrived this morning, and it's like new. Even the pouch looks unused.
No adaptors with it, but I've managed to source a 01F 2x teleconvertor which will be with me shortly.
Early days, but the lens looks superb. Nice and smooth and tight. Hardly a mark on it. even has a UV filter added, which I'll probably leave on for protection.
Test images look good. Time for a play.
 
I really wouldn't recommend using a UV filter when doing macro.

I know a lot of people swear they can't see any difference but with macro sharpness is critical and anything that may interfere with that is really not wanted.
