Does anyone have this lens, and if so,how good is it?

i was going to get the sigma 100-300 F4 EX IF DG lens, but i cannot get it anywhere in this country, and maybe not for another few months or so..so i'm now looking at alternative lens, and this popped up so i'm thinking..get this and a 1.4X or 2.0X teleconverter...sony/minolta fit

any help appreciated

Apparently not very fast and a bit noisy when it comes to auto-focus so tracking may be out, and also its a tad soft in the middle at 135mm. However, it's sharper elsewhere than L glass and even as good as the Nikon 70-200mm.

Never seen one in real life though and am simply regurgitating what I've read in the link above. I do like Tamron glass and would definitely buy one myself though.

cheers for that theory...mmmmmmmmmmm....choices,choices..i'm also tempted by the sony 70-200 F2.8G lens, but it's £1200

I'm in the same boat... Been wanting a fast 200mm zoom for a while. I use Nikon and the VR version is just crazy expensive, while the non-VR 80-200mm is about a grand cheaper but at the same time only a hundred or so more than the Tamron or Sigma versions....

The nikon 70-200mm is really special though. I got mine for £800ish second hand and loved it - it wasn't just fast, it was super sharp too and with a really nice bokeh. It's just one of those lenses and it oozes character in the shots it takes, plus the AF was pretty much perfect. I wish I still had it to use on my D300 but it was worth too much of my lovely money and bills came in. *sigh*

I'll probably plump for the tammy next as I've not been disappointed by their lenses yet, only pleased.
