Tamron SP AF 70-300 F/4-5.6 Di VC USD

Can anyone with one of these comment on the sound VC makes? The VC on my Tamron 90mm is quiet through the engage, on, disengage cycle. The 70-300 however makes a sound I don't like on engage / disengage. Here's a recording. https://soundcloud.com/daneels-1/tamron-70-300mm-vc-sound

I can only echo all the positive comments re this lens. I've had mine just over a year and am very pleased with it, using it regularly under all sorts of conditions, it gets the results I'm after.

Thanks Paulie! After a bit of googling it does seem this is normal, I was just surprised as my Tamron 90mm doesn't have that sound on engage/disengage of VC.

I'm in a but if a quandary and wondered if someone could advise?

I've currently got a Nikon 18-200mm DX VR II, and I'm finding myself wanting a bit more reach.

Apart from the obvious longer focal length, would the Tamron be considered an 'upgrade' to the Nikon (IQ wise), or would I be better off just getting a teleconverter?

I'd be using the lens on D7200, if it matters.

Tamron 70-300 VC is better at 200mm, and pretty good at 300mm too. Other option is the Nikon 70-300 VR that has a slight edge over the Tamron at 300mm, though there's not much in it and costs more (£400).

I have the Tamron, use it on a D7100 find it an excellent lens, best bang for the buck you can get, awsome VC.

I have had both and found the Nikon was a better build on the outside but the internal noises sounded cheaper! This was mainly due to it being the older style VR. The Tamron the first 2 copies of the Tamron I that I used had really bad lens creep - not sure if this was just down to it being earlier models, never used a 70-300 VR that has suffered from creep so I didnt get round to using the Tamron as picked up a 2nd hand Nikon.

IQ i couldnt fault the Nikon as long as you used it up to 270mm, at 300mm I felt the IQ dropped clearly enough to be visable.

I think I'll grab one of these at the end of the month. I loved my previous one. I was planning on splashing out on a 70-200 F4 but can't justify it so close to Christmas.

I'm hoping Amazon might have these at a decent price on 'Black Friday' (27th Nov).

If my memory is correct Amazon reduced this lens to about £230 from the normal price of £299 last black friday, the same reduction this year would be worth the wait.
