I've just invested in this lens, i saw reviews on the internet mainly american sites. Only a couple of shops in the UK selling it at the moment, i had to go with Jessops as i didn't trust any of the other shops, I'd rather spend a bit more than spend less and lose my money. This will hopefully be the last telephoto lens i need to buy so i can move onto saving money and buying BCD and other scuba equipment.

I look forward for the arrival im just so excited!! Fingers crossed it wipes the floor of my Tamron 70-300 macro lens, which is rubbish for wildlife. Fingers crossed i've not made a big mistake with this one...

Has anyone else on the forum got one??

Watch this space! :)

Cheers, JDP.

How did it work out - I'm considering getting one.

I am interested in buying this Tamron lens for my Canon 550D so what is your opinion now after nearly 5 months use. Is it as good as you expected ? Would you buy a different lens given the opportunity? What other lens would/did you consider?
I would really appreciate your feedback.

Well, it is a very good lens, but I've only actually had mine for just under a month and prefer the 100-400L which I'm lucky enough to own.

I've also (in theory as Royal Mail have lost it!!) have a 70-200L 2.8 IS on the way and if its as good as it looks I'll be trading it back in.

But do not get me wrong it is a very good lens indeed and I was thrilled with it.

As a Sony owner and last in the list of mounts it's going to be released for, I'm tad miffed that I'm being asked to pay for the same for the VC version when it's not a feature of the Sony version (figure that one out), yet the price is the same (Sigma OS and non-OS lenses are about 50% different in price to allow for the OS or non-OS).

I digress. I shoot aviation, so would really appreciate your qualified feedback as to how quick the AF is and the speed of locking focus and also IQ.

If it's as good as it reads, then it's on my shortlist, but lens mount aside, would like to see image samples at all focal lengths at ISO's 100 and 200, else it's a case of sourcing something else.

TIA.

Mark

Do it, it is brilliant, The only lens i would upgrade too telephoto wise now are the canon L lenses (not for a while yet!)... It was the only premium cheap telephoto lens. (See my recent posts for samples!)

Yeah that's true, they say the body has it's own IS so they didn't bother with this lens!.

Ah cool... I think it would be very good for aviation, it can just about focus on barn swallows, which are stupidly quick! AF very quick.

I think it is as good as it says. Check out some of my recent posts (if your still looking for it!) and most are shot between 100-300mm.
