Hi all.

I have been thinking about getting the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8G ED VR II, which seems to be an amazing lens.

However, today I have been looking at Tamron's competitor and wondered if anyone on here had used the Tamron, or both, and could give me an opinion on how the Tamron performs please.

I will be mainly using it for sport photography and the low aperture will be useful as some of these events are indoor.

Thanks all.

What is your budget?

The tamron does perform very well, and is fast focusing, sharp wide open etc. I am (with any 3rd party lens) worried about future compatibility - but as DSLR seems to be done with as far as Nikon are concerned, you should be good.

I ask about your budget, as if you look around, 1k or so will get you the Nikon 70-200 fl-e and it's epic in every way. For me, the best 70-200 2.8 for any dslr made, it's really that good. Pair it with a sports body and it'll smash sport photography all day long. It really is that good.....

What body are you using / plan on using?

Several of these image sets are shot on the 70-200 fl-e (there's a few on the canon 70-200 but you'll see the exif on the flickr)

Hey TH, thank you for the reply.

My budget is circa £1.5k, which is what I have put aside for the new lens.

I have recently got the D850 so it will be used with my new body.

For that budget, I'd go for the nikon fl-e. The results from the D850 should be spectacular
