I have a Canon 60D and was looking for a zoom lens for motorsport and general walkabout and come across the Tamron SP 70-200 F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 Lens A025

My question is would this outperform the camera with the 60D now getting on a bit and would It be better to get something like the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM

I’m not sure that Tamron lens is optically superior to the Canon f4L, but it doesn’t matter anyway.

In real terms a lens can’t ‘outperform’ a camera, there’s an argument that a really bad camera (the 60d isn’t) won’t be able to take advantage of a really good lens, but these are academic arguments and bear little real difference to the photos you take.

Buy the lens that you want*, enjoy it.

* on the basis of ‘Canons crop sensors are horrible in low light’ an f2.8 lens is always a better option than an f4 lens

At the price point I would expect the Tamron to give good IQ. Have you read any reviews about it?
The Canon 70-200L IS F4 MK1 produces very good IQ.
I was in a similar situation recently, I was toying with either a Canon 100-400L IS MK1 or a Tamron 100-400 VC.
I've previously owned the Canon version and although I liked it, logic told me that as the Tamron is a lot newer, IQ wise it should be as good as the Canon if not better.
The price for the Tamron also made sense compared to a used Canon.
I read a few reviews and went for the Tamron and so far I am pleased with my decision.

Looking at the reviews and lab reports the Tamron looks brilliant on paper and scoring over 4500 in the MTU value's.

Got rid of the K-1 already then?

I had the Tamron for a while before grabbing a Canon MKII at a decent price and it was an excellent lens. Have to say the Canon f/4 MKI IS is an absolute cracker though and probably more suitable as a general walkabout.

Hi Mike never even opened the K1 to be honest, my mate has one and tried that but didn't tick my boxes for what price it was and what the lenses cost so I'm going down the budget route and always had excellent results from the 60D in the past and it's cheap.
