Tamron SP 150-600mm F5-6.3 DI IF VC USD

It's really odd I bought a few branded Canon lens excellent prices just bought a Sony most of the lens Sony Sigma Tokina cost more than the UK just ordered a Sigma 10-20mm was about £30 cheaper here than HK Panamoz or DigitalRev

That does seem very strange for a grey import. I got an official UK version from a UK shop with full 5 year warranty for the same £949 plus I had a 10% off voucher so I paid just over £850.
I like your price better, i have little experience but it does seem that the non main brand lenses are more expensive in many axes as grey import

Hi c22w1

Was the 10% off with a widely available discount code ? If so could you point us in the right direction ?

Regards

Gary

A couple more both shot at the full 600mm and about 50% crops. Snapping birds in a garden in good light is fine but snapping distant waders in less than ideal light will make my mind up on the lens. All I would say at the moment is that it is good value for money that's for sure.

Gary, sorry but the code was unique to me if I bought through paypal (I spend a lot of money that way and occaisionally get offers like this), I was just pointing out that better deals can be had (or at least as good) by buying official UK stock rather than grey import. Nothing wrong with grey stuff, I've bought some myself, but dont always assume that that it will be cheaper.

Hi c22w1

Curses ! You obviously got a great deal there. Thanks for the update.

I'm torn between keeping mine or selling it. I've put the 70-300L up for sale but I love that lens and its easier for me to manage size wise. The extra reach is a big bonus obviously on the tamron but it takes up so much room and I need to use a monopod with it most of the time.
Decisions, decisions....

Due to the short supply I can't see 150-600 the hanging about in the for sale forum for very long. I'm sure you'd get a very quick sale.

I've decided to put mine up for sale as I'm struggling with sciatica and the size/bulkiness of this lens isn't helping. Will be sorry to see it go as its been a great buy for the price.

That'll be the back-orders then :D

Just for those who are wondering what the grey import price might be I phoned HDEW before buying mine elsewhere and they don't stock Tamron.

Also Carmarthen Cameras would match other advertised prices last time I was in there (though they didn't have stock at the time).

For those that are still wondering whether to buy this lens or not I can certainly say that this lens has taken my bird photography to a new level. However as I've never used any of the big Canon L lenses I'm not able to do a comparison with them.

I will have to get the "fix" done at some stage though.........

Now that could be it. I may well have had a (good quality) UV on it - despite your and others' advice. Another thing to test for!

Did you find an answer to the filter question Jerry?

I'm hopeless at testing for the sake of it but I can say that I've been using the lens with the filter on without noticing any problems. (It's a Marumi DHG super)

Thanks Jerry. Those Marumi Super DHGs are good filters :)

Ah, thanks, didn't realise you were talking about the 1st batch ... mine's the latest batch :)

Got to say, I'm quite happy with this lens....especially for the money.

This is a 4.2MB jpeg SOOC taken from about 100mts away.
600mm. Hand held 1/400th sec (VC/VR on) ISO 160 @ F8.
