I bought the D5000 earlier this year & am looking to add a wide angle zoom to the 18-55 & 55-200mm kit lenses that came with the body.

The above Tamron lens seems to get pretty good reviews & is within my budget. HAs anyone used the lens & what did you think?
 
I tested one of these on my old Canon 1000D, wasn't impressed at all, especially with the build quality. plucked for a Tokina 12-24mm in the end although the wide Sigma produced just as good shots.

Well its cheap, but personally it was the first lens I struck off my potential wide-angles list when I saw sample images taken with it!
 
I bought one and sent it back, it's not very good.

There is a Sigma 10-20 in the classifieds. Much, much better.
 
Yes.

I liked the angle it gave, but the softness really bothered me.
