Hi All
Going to treat my self to a new lens . Looking at the 150 -600mm zooms from tamron or sigma . Any one got any advice ?
Any one bought one and returned it for the other?

I've not got or used either but since you've had no replies I thought I'd give you my thoughts from what I've read.

I was planning on getting one of the 160-600 lenses and when I was reading about it, every review said that the Sigma was a bit better than the Tamron. The sport version being just slightly sharper than the contemporary version.

Also the Sigma has the dock available for it which from what I've read on here is very useful and the latest firmware update had made them even better and lightning fast at auto focusing.

I've not bought one yet, but I believe The sigma with the dock may have the edge

I think the sigma can take a tele converter, where as the tamron can`t. I have the tamron, and for the money, I`m really happy with it. There is a review somewhere where a couple took both on safari, which is an interesting read.

EDIT found it

I have the 150-600mm Tamron and it's very nice indeed, I like it a lot.
I rented the equivalent Sigma for the afternoon and looked at them side by side and didn't find any difference.

Some sample images - all birds in this case :)

I have had two Tamrons and the Sigma,long story but my money would be with the Sigma,if for no other reason the dock makes it more future proof.

There's nothing in it between the Sport and Contemporary image quality wise, I tested both before I bought, and bought the Contemporary version, which is also slightly smaller and lighter. The AF is pretty much as fast in the AF motor priority mode which is now lightning quick, especially after the firmware update. The USB dock gives you lots of tweaks and options too which is very innovative.

Not had mine long, but here are a few test shots, its a superb lens in every respect;

Thanks for your replies I'm veering towards the Sigma C . I do have a little time before I decide. And been able to update the lens without sending it away is very tempting.
