Is a teleplus 2x mc7 the same model as the tamron 2x caf mc7

I have a old Teleplus C-AF 2x MC7 Bob, superb optics but will not AF on any of my f2.8 lenses for some reason. Have you got one that AF's ?

No Roy but I met someone a few weeks back who put a Tamron 2x CAF MC7 and it autofocussed on 40D=300F4IS, ok it was good light and not a bad job at all and I thought well for the odd time it might be handy so I have been keeping my eye on the bay where I noticed the teleplus has the same markings ie MC7 and sometimes they have BBAR aswell but no idea what that means.

Apparantly they do not come up very often but when they do they go for 30-50£ and thought worth a punt, teleplus ones are more available but if no af then not really interested

its odd that it will not af on your 2.8 gear

Have you tried the Jessops 2x DGII, I like it and its reasonably priced, and you can go test it.

Looks very much like a re-badged Kenko/Teleplus/Tamron Simon. Is it a reporting tc?
Seems to me like it only has 8 pins so that would make it non reporting (which is what you want on a f4 lens). Although the write-up says "Autofocus is maintained for lenses with a maximum aperture of F4 or faster (e.g. F2.8), a limit set by the Canon body."
Which is a bit strange because Canon non 1 series bodies only AF up to f5.6 so with a 2x tc you would need a f2.8 lens for full AF with a 2x tc (unless you tape the pins).

EDIT: looking through the customer reviews it seem evident that it is a non reporter - GOOD. It is also evident from the reviews that the vast majority of people who reviewed it have not got a clue about f stop light lose and Camera AF restrictions. A lot are complaining that it will not AF with a f5.6 lens lol (that would take it to f11 effectively !!!).

Correct me if I am wrong but does the 1D series auotfocus any how albeit just the centre point only, read something about it on lens above F4  but knowing me have that completely wrong

I focus with any point, although I have reduced the number to about 19 I think.
But a 1d mkii is good at it, the blur is the user error.
