Hi all, will this lens be better than my current kit lens (18-55 ef) for general pics of family, landscapes ect was hoping it would be a bit sharper and give me a better zoom, it seems good value at £70 from pc world.
cheers all :)

Hmmm, not sure if it'll give you better landscapes, or portraits as 50mm is good for portraits, which your standard 18-55 covers, and for landscapes you would want to be at the wide end of the same lens ie 18mm. That said, as far as cheap zooms go, apparently its very good for the price, or for another 30 quid or so, you could get a Sigma 70-300 apo?

Another vote for the 70-300

I have a Tamron AF 55-200 F4-5.6 LD Macro, dont know if this is the same one you have seen?

it was about £60-£70 on amazon, its a lot sharper than the 18-55 400D kit lens (what isnt ) very good for the money as I didnt want to spend a packet while im still learning.

I shot this landscape with my Tamron at 55mm (one of my first shots with it)

Id give that Sigma a serious look too, as an extra £30 wont break the bank :)

cheers

You have the option of the Tamron 70-300 DI LD or Sigma 70-300 APO, both decent considering the price...

the Tamron is generally considered to be the sharpest of the 2 but does suffer quite a bit more CA than the Sigma

As mentioned though neither are the ideral focal range for landscape

I had a kit lens that was 28mm on a 350D and it wasn't really wide enough for touristy or landscape
look at 18 on a cropped sensor for landscape I think.
the 18-55 IS is nice apparantly if you're on a budget
