Im thinking of getting a Tamron 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD Macro (Canon AF) lens as it looks good for the price (£99) according to a couple of magazine reviews I've read.

Has anyone had any experience with this lens, and can you recommend me to buy it or steer clear ?

There is a thread about this lens on here somewhere.

It is highly recommended and very very good value for money. IMHO

Thanks. Just did a search and found some related threads and a good review by douglas darter.

Im sold now, will definately be getting one of those soon.

I was all set to purchase the tamron within the next week or so, but looking in a local camera shop I saw a Canon EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM for £129 (limited special offer).

Is this a good deal ?? Forgetting any difference in price can anyone give me an opinion of the best lens of the 2 ?

I have the Canon one on my 300D, not a 100% if its the II modle though but all the other specs are the same and I quite like it, have taken some decent photo's with it and looking forward to taking it to donnington park for the renaul world series

infact thinking about it mine is the lens that you could get in the 'Big' kist for the 300D the one including 2 lens's and a battery grip etc so if anyone knows if this is the II lens??

Thanks for the replies and thanks for the link sepulchre.
