tamron 28-75 2.8 yes or no?

Anyone have any views on this lens with a ff camera? I cannot afford a canon 24-70 at the moment and was pretty much definite about picking up one of these at the weekend but now I am not so sure. Reviews online seem good but just wondered if anyone here has any opinions or alternative suggestions up to £500

It has a great reputation that's for sure, can't comment from experience I'm afraid but I've always read good things....

I use one on a Nikon D90 and the autofocus is slow but its very sharp
 
I have one of these on my 5D mkII. I have to say it pretty much lives on the body. I use it for everything from product shots to portraits and most things in between.

Obviously not at the build quality of an L lens, but I think you get plenty of bang for your buck.

Had one on my 5d2 cracking sharp lens with good IQ only thing that lets it down is sluggish noisy focus which is ultimately why i swapped to the 24-70L
 
Come on its not that slow, its a cracking lens on my d3s and D700 and i went the other way, i sold a Nikon 24-70 simply because i had use of the Tamron and decided the difference between the 2 simply wasnt £800
 
Definitely yes! It is a lens with a nice character... It stays always in my bag when I travelling.
 
I used one on a Nikon but now have the Nikon 24-70. Second hand you are talking about £200 for Tamron and £900 for Nikon, and while the Nikon is better, the Tamron is a steal at that price. WIll be far better than any Nikon or Canon zooms at that price.

When i started taking shots of the young un at the skate park i was missing shots with the Tamron on the body but until then it hadn't caused me any issues.
 
I am going to get oen for my 5dII... if its anything like the tamron 17-50 then i will be happy.
 
I had one on my old 1D3, I found it average to be honest, I'm pretty sure I must of had a dud though as there is a lot of love for this lens. It was sharp enough but I found the colours and contrast weak, AF was ok but not what you'd call fast. All shots with it required a lot of PP to get something I was happy with, so I bit the bullet and bought the 24-70L in the end.

I will try one again though if I pick up a FF camera.
 
the L is 2x better but 5x the price. for example - the L can compete with primes, tamron can't .
 
I have it also as my walkabout and love it, the AF isn't ultrasonic but its not slow, I would recommend it on a budget. Also buy it second hand and you will have a good investment, they seem to go for over £200 in good condition and boxed.

heavy, big (filter size 72mm if I remember correctly) , lots of bad copies.
I've had sigma and tamron - I would choose tammy any day/night. unless you can get the siggy for 150 or so .

And that minor difference could be down to what in camera sharpness you and your mate have on your respective cameras.
 
I've got one and I'm not impressed with it to be honest. At 28mm wide open its about as sharp as I'd want it, at 75mm it's pretty awful. I need to do more testing to see if it's a sharpness issue or a back/front focussing issue which if you've got micro adjustment on your camera (I haven't) could be dialled out but TBH I can't be arsed because I barely use it.

It would seem I'm in the minority here so my advice would be that if you buy one buy a new one (I didn't) so that you can send it to Intro2020 for adjustment under warranty if required.
 
You might also consider the Tamron 24-135. Whilst not fast as in aperture or focussing, it is near as dammit as good as the 28-75. Check out Fred Miranda for reviews.

Seams you could simply have the old quality control issue of some Sigma and Tamron :thumbsdown:, thats what puts me off buying new 3rd party lens.
 
I've used one on both Canon and Nikon and was very pleased with both. Great cheap alternative to the Canon / Nikon equivalents which are huge in comparison - and much heavier. Colours and contrast are excellent, and if you can micro adjust your AF then you can't go wrong.
 
I have one on my d300 and love it very happy and its sharp lens hope this helps
 
+1 from me, paid about 260 new from onestop digital and I'm more than happy with it :)

I agree with the above, it certainly isn't that slow, i've had the Tamron on my D700 for ages now, i've also tried the Nikon 24-70mm, image quality wise i would say their is nothing in it, as for AF speed well yes the Nikon is faster but then you would expect it to be for £800 more :)
