Hi folks

Picked one of these up for a play.Should arrive next week.

I like Tamron stuff, but I'm pretty sure that a 10x zoom on a D700 is going to be pushing things, although Thom Hogan says this lens is "surprisingly good"

Anyone here use one? (pref on an FF body)

Looks like I'm the only person with one!

Well it arrived today, and first impressions are quite positive!

AF speed is reasonable - much faster than the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 Di (more glass to move in that I suppose), the VC (vibration compensation) is VERY impressive. To my eyes the VC is easily as good - if not better - than Nikon's VR - it locked immediately with a super stable viewfinder at 300mm. Impressive.

Image quality seems reasonanable - 300mm wide open (f/6.3) looks acceptable.

Build quality is typical Tamron, lots of plastic, but nevertheless it never gives the impression of something about to fall apart.

If I can secure a 70-300 VR for a day or two...I will try to compare...

I've had the non VC version for about 4 years and have had some excellent results from it :).

100% crop @ 300mm (no PP) of a rather fast moving car :)
