Heya guys i am contemplating buying a new lens. I have done some reading and i think i am going for the:

Tamron 18-200 3.5-6.3 to reach far and get wide angles, my kind of always stay on the body lens.

please tell me what you think/ post sample pics. It will be on my sony alpha a300.

I have never bought a new lens!

A jack of all trades is never a brilliant solution. You will get a do-it-all but you probably won't get image quality you were looking after. Perhaps if you do something more specifically then we could give some better buying suggestions.

yeah i would guess but surely it is better optically than my kit lens now?

I bought this lens for the exact reason you mention last year (second hand from Mifsuds). I took it on two holidays last year as my only lens with my A200.

I am now looking to replace this lens with a good (or at least more expensive) quality 17-70 range lens. There are a couple of reasons why I'm looking to do this. First, looking back at my photos, the majority of my photos did not require such a large range, so I sacrificed glass quality for a range that I didn't especially use. Secondly, I'm not convinced that I'm happy with the resultant pictures. The colours seem a bit flat, especially compared to my friend's Canon 450/Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 combo. I can't believe that the difference between the photos is all down to the bodies, so the majority of it is probably down to the lens. Although whether that thinking is correct is yet to be tested...

It's tempting to get a 'do everything' lens, especially as your first upgrade from the kit lens, but I was in this exact position last year, went for the super-zoom and now looking to move on. I'm sure it works out for others, but I think I'm happy to sacrifice reach for quality of the glass.

However, if you do want the Tamron, I'll sell you mine ;)
