Is £250 a good price for this lens new or could I find it cheaper else where
Chers for any advice Bob
 
New or 2nd hand?
 
I believe £250 is a good price from somewhere like OneStop Digital, which come from Hong Kong. Doubt you will find a UK spec cheaper and you'll have no issues with warranty (direct from OneStop).

I've never bought from OSD myself but have heard good things about how they deal with customers, problems and warranty issues. Maybe someone who has bought something can confirm?

Never had warranty issues, so haven't needed onestop for them yet but I've bought a few thousand pounds worth of stuff through them and haven't had problems.
 
£250 is very good new, probably less than you would pay 2nd hand. But OSD does it for £244 i think, but that is from, hongkong, so not really the same as an english supplier.
 
Don't suppose anybody knows when the VR version of this lens is going to be made available for Canon?

It was released in Japan on the 29th October.
It's rumoured to go on worldwide release the middle of this month.

It might be worth holding off and waiting for the new VC version of this lens.
The price difference on on onestopdigital between the non VC and the VC version for Nikon is about £120.
Don't forget that this a new design and not just the old version with VC bolted on so hopefully it will be even better.
One review of the Nikon version that I've read makes the new lens sound very good.

I've been really tempted to buy the non VC version, However, I have now decided to wait for the VC version.
I've searched hard for the best price and onestopdigital are the cheapest.
You will get a £5 discount if you pay via bank trank transfer with them.

It's when you transfer money to another account via the internet or pay cash directly into their bank account.
 
I've just given Intro 2020 a call who are the official UK distributor for Tamron.
A rather vague reply to my question about the release of the Canon version.
The best they could say was either the middle of this month or the end of the month.
However, as I said in a previous post, fingers crossed that HK will received stock before the UK.
 
If they sell the Canon one at the price they're selling the Nikon one on Onestop, hashcake, I'll definitely be placing my order with them! Nikon one is out of stock though, so I imagine they had a run on them; better get our orders in sharpish! :thumbs:

Well once it appears on their website, we'll know it's available.
I'm going pay via bank transfer and select DHL for delivery.
With the discount they give for this payment option, delivery will only cost £5.
As a matter of interest, last week I noticed that their price on the VC version for Nikon dropped by around £7 and the non VC version dropped by around £5.
A lot of UK retailers are also out of stock of the Canon non VC version so I am guessing that this will soon be dropped from Tamrons product line.
It wouldn't make sense to continue both versions.
 
So it could be worth waiting a week or so and watch the price. I know One stop are out of stock for the 28-75 f/2 Ive tried for one they dont know when new stock will arrive.

I just bought a mint, boxed DiII for £160 - great lens. Keep your eyes peeled on ebay, especially with the VC version coming out - should be some good used barghains
 
Hmmm, strange I thought I had already posted here about Simply.
Personally I wouldn't trust them as far as I can throw them.
If they have 14 in stock then they will be the only place on the planet that does have stock.
Even if they did have stock they would be grey imports, as I posted above, the UK distributor has yet to receive stock.
I have nothing against grey imports but I would never buy from Simply.

If you google this lens you will find a press release from Tamron stating the release date in Japan.
There is no way this lens has hit worldwide distribution as it was only recently released.
As I said above, there is a good chance that HK suppliers will probably have stock before the UK.
Think about it, shipping to Hong Kong will be quicker than to the UK.

OneStop are 100% trustworthy. I used them when they first started up (order number #12, June2005!) and I'd quite happily pay by Bank Transfer when I use them which says a lot.

Simply I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole, regardless of length.

Their prices are not too good be true because they are not based in the UK.
Think about it, when companies supply the UK market, VAT, import tax, and transport costs etc all add up whereas hese costs tend to be lower in other parts of the world.
Other Hong Kong based companies offer better prices than the UK but I've yet to come across one that can match onestopdigital.
They have a fantastic reputation, I've bought a few things from them and their service is 100%.
 
Everything I have ordered from OneStop has arrived quickly and without issue.

I really don't know whether to buy the VC or non VC version :shrug:
I see so many beautiful handheld shots with the current model.
I guess I should wait but with my 24-105 being collected tonight I am without a walkabout lens and at £250. Tamron :razz:

Aye, it's a difficult one; I've already got the 17-50 and it's lovely; however, I am tempted to trade up to the VC version, as it seems that it'll be a heap less than the Canon 17-55, and the Nikon version seems to be getting the thumbs up.. :help:

That is my thinking towards waiting. I don't want to spend the money to get a 17-55, even 2nd hand, when the Tamron promises alot and has delivered as much in its previous incarnation.
