Tamron 17-50 2.8 non vc focus problem

recently picked one of these up. when focusing on my d7100, the lens just continually tries to focus and ultimately fails to do so. Theres a couple of videos of this on youtube where others are having the same problem with this lens. Anyone had similar experiences?
