Hi all, I need a new bag that can easily accomodate a 500 f4, was looking at a Tamrac expedition 8x and was wondering if any one has any expierience with this or a similar bag. I would go with Lowerpro but i`m not paying the silly prices they wan`t for their equivelant bags.

Anybody out there who can help?

Iv'e got the epedition 6x and its great, lightweight but very well padded and sturdy,Holds a tripod really well and in the middle too so its balanced, its only downfall is its a little too small for my new laptop :(

Hi I have one to hold my gear, it is a fairly large bag when you see it in the flesh, but it is superb.

Mine carries the following, Canon 1D Mark II fitted with Sigma 500mm F4.5 with Hood extended ( main reason I bought it  ), Canon 70-200 F2.8 with hood, Canon 1.4x TC, Canon 50mm F1.4 with hood, Canon 17-40 F4L with hood, Hawke 8x42 Binos in case, Spare Battery, A Cokin Filter set with 3 adaptors and filters, Manfrotto 680B Monopod, Manfrotto 055CLB tripod and Manfrotto 393 Long lens Mount, Hat, Gloves, Memory cards, and it still leaves me room at a push for my 1.8L Thermos in the laptop section.

This lot weighs a ton when you lift it, but once it's on your back the bag is so comfy you hardly notice it, it is one of the first bags I have worn that you don't have to hunt for the straps once you throw it over one shoulder. I would highly recommend it.

I paid about £109 including postage for it a wee while back at Wilkinsons but I see it's now down in price to below that mark elsewhere now.

Mike.

Cheers guys, interesting Mike that the Sigma will fit with the hood extended sounds like there is plenty of room, think that I will go ahead and order one.

I have the Expedition 8 bought from Aspens of Hereford at a really good price.

It takes everything in my "camera bag" in my profile with room to spare.

As said above it feels very heavy to pick up but is excetionally well balanced when worn.

I have used it on long days out (10+ hours) with no problem afterwards.

Cheers Psifox for the imput....have just ordered one from fotosense for £97 pastage and packaging included for next day morning delievery, the actual bag came to £86....great price for this size and type of bag.
