TalkPhotography™ Day 2012

Good link to the heritage open days I had forgot about those I will have to see what's in my area.

Quite gutted to be honest, was gonna buy the book when it came out, just for the sake of having MY photograph in print:'(

take a pic with your phone or P&S if you have one

Keith pm me your address asap - I have a canon G4 doing nowt you can borrow for the purposes of sept 9th - okay its a compact, but it gives a degree of cretative control.

I'll do my best to get a shot for this, good luck everyone

I won't be takin part in this after all :'(

Some of you may know that I have been bombarding the forum with all manner of questions on what DSLR to get. Advice seems to be to try and handle in the shops so you can find what suits you. Done that and was leaning towards a D3100. Other advice was that it is possible that I might outgrow this at some point and hanker after something with more features/capabilities and suggested getting a 2nd hand "better" camera. Apparently there are quite a few for sale in the classifieds and I was content to wait for the 25/60 rule before I could access them. After all it gave me more time to ask questions :)

I had the money waiting but something else has come up and money has now gone on something not related to cameras. I could not wait another month for access to the classifieds.

So my idea of re-starting photography has been put on the back-burner until further funds are available which will be...... whenever.

Shame - was looking forwards to doing this - even understood the ISO thingy!

It sounds really interesting and I want to know more about this.

What would you like to know? happy to answer any questions you may have

Welcome to TP

Just to note this is all packaged up ready to go , but i missed the post office today - i'll send it off RMSD tommorow. When i got it out of the cupboard to check everything works I realised that it was a G5 not a G4 but whatever if it lets keith get a tp day shot then i'm happy

I've put an extra battery and a 256MB CF card in the box as well because the card supplied with the camera was only 32mB

I've just discovered that I'll be at Chessington World of Adventures with my husband, sister-in-law, niece & nephew on Sunday...! Might make for some very blurry and upside-down pictures!

Absolutely fantastic and lovely gesture sir. Nice one

A staggering 118 people signed up for TPDay2012 so far :woot: but we still want loads more to take part so come on people get signed up, clear the memory cards, charge the batteries and clean your lens it's getting close to the best day of the year, and I already know what my photo will be :D

General Guidance
If possible, please synchronise your camera clock with GMT if in UK (by internet or dialling 123 on your telephone) and please (please!) ensure that the date on your camera is right! This makes the process of putting the images into order a lot easier by using their Meta Data.

Are we setting to GMT or BST please? (Sorry if this has been answered, but it's a long thread to check through).

If I'm not mistaken, someone correct me, any camera is acceptable! It doesn't have to be a limited edition Hasselblad; a film camera from 1966 would do fine

TP has 10,000s members; surely more want to take part in such a group event?

Any camera at all is acceptable  I guess I'll put my Ferrari LE Hassy back on the shelf and just use my camera phone....

I all seriousness indeed any camera can be used for this day, any skill level is acceptable, all we ask is for a photo taken on this day that has some meaning to you  I know what I'm going to do :D

TPDay2012 the best day of the year :woot:

ooh good point about the camera date and time.. having said that, i don't think i've adjusted mine from last year, so should be ok :bonk:

As Dave asked on the last page...
"Are we setting to GMT or BST please?"
Have we got an answer yet ?

I'm thinking it is probably BST as that's what nearly all our cameras will be set to

I think smooth wanted GMT because we'll use it a universal refference time regardless of where members are (bearing in mind that we have members in france, spain, austrailia, saudi etc) GMT (or Zulu time as the yanks call it) , is generally recognised as the universal frame of refference for timing international opperations

Pete I think if they use the time the actual pic was taken in their Timezone, so its in chronological order otherwise, we could have a night shot or something in the middle of the day, I could be wrong like

We need smooooooth to give a definitive answer on that one - I thought he wanted them chronological regardless of day or night conditions in the locality - but i could be wrong

Spot on. The photo book and slideshow will be set to the exif from camera - keep it set spot on to your timezone.

my bad :bonk:
