Just had Talk Talk on the phone with what seems a good offer but are they any good. There broard band speed seems good. Please let me know.
I am currently with Virgin and had no problems so I'm a bit reluctant to change .
Thanks

Dont bother! LINK

Had a salesman at the door a few weeks ago, I asked him two questions that I already knew the answers to, and he told two great big whoppers! I asked him to leave!

don't fix what ain't broke...

The best advice you could get Ray. You only have to google any provider and read customers bad experiences. Imo it dont prove anybody is any better or worse than the rest.

Thanks all.
Just finished looking at google for reviews and i must say I'm not impressed.
so it looks if i will be staying with Virgin.

I was with Tiscali which was taken over by Talk Talk and the bb speed has come down quiet a bit. Stick with virgin for bb.

Things are a lot brighter at TalkTalk since their demerger from Carphone Warehouse.

However, Virgin provide a stable product and better customer service in my experience.

Mine went up after a year or so with Talktalk.

A nice 8.6 from an 8 line and only £24 for phone (calls & rental) and BB is a steal.

I was with freedom2surf, who got bought by pipex, who themselves got bought by tiscali, who then got bought by talk talk.

I was getting 5.5Mb at best with talk talk on a 6.6Mb sync. I moved to sky this week, £10 a month cheaper, the line is still settling down (takes upto 10 days to run what they call DLM) but I'm getting tests coming back at 8.10 - 8.25Mb tonight on a 8.9Mb sync, probably a little more to come too.

I was one of the lucky ones with talk talk, lots of people who were with F2S have appalling speeds..

My friends internet connection was offline for a month through talktalk. He got absolutely nowhere with them on the phone and kept giving him the same generic answers every time he spoke to one of their advisors.

In the end I had to make an account on their forums and pretend to be him, I finally got him back online. They'd screwed something up on his account somehow. Got no apologies, nor compensation, disgraceful.

May be an isolated incident but after that experience I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole!

Been with TT since they started, get my broadband for nothing, nil, nada.
Used to be with BT and costing me £hundreds, since moving to TT with phone and BB I've slashed the costs for my two lines.
Do I miss mega-speeds? No, everything works fine at around 4Meg (estimated max for my distance from the exchange varies between 5&7).
Do I miss paying over the odds? No.
Has TT been reliable? Yes - I can only speak as I find.

Talk Talk customer services is absolutely shocking so provided you dont have problems you'll be ok as the service and price structure is pretty good.

I must be the exception. Been with them a few years now and had no problems.

Lucky you... I am currently searching for a new service provider but sadly they all seem to be hit and miss.

Talk Talk have caused me nothing but problems since they took over from my old Tiscalli bb which was bad enough. Now I am lucky if I can get prints to send to the printers without it cutting out.

Talk Talk is costing £5 more per month now than Tiscali were charging.

Thank you every one .I'm going to stick with Virgin now.I've never had any problems with them, but Talk Talk's offer seemed so good, and after some research it seems they are pretty bad ,dose not look to good for them.

My speed doubled when I switched to TalkTalk a year ago, only problem is they don't do fibre optic yet like BT Infinity but I am sure that it will come

We had 18 months of hell with Talktalk and it started the day they switched us to a LLU Network

Stick with who you are with as the good deals always come with a catch and for me its the bad service and indian call centres

Talk Talk customer services is very poor, in the immigration from tiscali they switch off my internet for 2 days without notice. The call centre help line is a joke 8 very long calls and all they can offer is switch off the pc and hard reset your router time after time after time. Every person you speak to tell you a different story and none were true. Help centre is also basses in india, cancelation line is in the uk.

A tip for you if you phone to cancel your broadband due to issues they give you £10 goodwill and the Tec support call you back for free.

I'm looking to move from Talktalk but not sure who too.

Talktalk costs an extra £5 a month on the old tiscali price.

I've been with TalkTalk since October, no real complaints here - and £19 for my phone line, calls and BB all in a month, well I'm not paying a kings ransom.

They did however send me the jippiest of routers, some white tablet shaped thing with one ethernet port, it got replaced sharpish.

Contrastingly though - whenever I have called up, its always been scottish people at the centre!

Which package is that?

I'm unsure of what it was called when i got it, however It looks like their Essentials package now.

linky:

https://sales.talktalk.co.uk/products/broadband/essentials.html

3.49 + 12.30 = 15.79 for the first 12 months

7.00 + 12.30 = 19.30 for the rest.

This seems pretty similar to what I was on. Free connection (if you are moving to a new property) broadband with 40gb allowance, calls free at evening and weekend.

No problems my own so far.. touch wood

Ah, thanks Rich. It sounds like the same package as me - except I was originally with Tiscali hence it costs another £6 per month for the same thing. Perhaps I should complain.

I've been with Virgin (and when it was NTL) for 7 years now. The customer service improved when Virgin bought NTL and never had any real problems since.

My only experience with Talk Talk was a bit of a joke. I'd got them to setup BB for my parents' work. It was all booked in but the engineer didn't show on the day. I rang them the next day only to be told that the address wasn't covered by them. Fine, I thought, I'll get BT in as they do cover it. When I called BT they said that Talk Talk already owned the line and they couldn't install with Talk Talk cancelling the subscription.

It took the best part of two weeks of phone calls to finally sort the problem out. By the end of the fortnight we received a package from Talk Talk with an ADSL splitter and a letter welcoming us to Talk Talk! Plugged it in and voila, full internet! I called back Talk Talk to ask them what the hell was going on and they said the internet had been working for a fortnight and had no idea what had happened.

Either way the internet was working (although they didn't refund the two weeks when we thought there was no internet and they hadn't sent any equipment).

Hmm, the first point covers it. Door-to-door canvassers/sales. Well, it's a job (just) but you have to ask whether they're there to offer in-depth technical advice or simply get signature from the unsuspecting and gullibles who can't say no.

Why buy anything from a cold caller?:bang:
