talk talk broadband ?

I have used them for ages and havent had too many problems. I had a few problems running the latest version of Firefox so had to switch back to Internet Explorer. The problem may have been resolved now though- I am not very good at technical stuff.I just checked though and it says I am getting 8.2 meg speed at the moment.

We were with Tiscali which is now TalkTalk, we have had no problems with them so far.

The broadband is fast and reliable.... however the customer service in my experience is shocking when needed.

When we moved home the service we had was so bad I almost cancelled,

In my experience its good when good (most of the time) but bloody terrible when its bad......

Awful company, I could list all the problems I've had with them, but it would take too long......

Oh and they quoted my parents 8mb, when I checked they were actually getting less than 2mb.......

thanks guys,I'm with sky and a couple of months ago the modem went haywire.........................spent hours on the phone, and eventually after 3 faulty replacement modems got one that worked.took 8 weeks

So I'm not enamoured by skys customer service

Well at least you got through to someone !!!!....and i bet they actually spoke a version of English you could actually understand :-)

:plusone:

Customer service terrible. They have a script that they stick to no matter what. Insisted I use Internet Explorer, even though I use a Mac. Told me I was being 'unhelpful' when I told them I didn't have IE. They insisted that ALL computers have IE.

I moved to BT Broadband and hopefully will get Infinity in time for xmas. Plus you get a free Pro account on Flickr (you can even create another 9 free Flickr Pro accounts by setting up additional email addresses linked to your BT account)

One jewel in the thorny crown of TalkTalk is the members area which doesnt seem to be advertised by them widely. On here you can get very good help from the techies who will try all sorts to boost your line speed.

If you decide to change suppliers away from TalkTalk it's like Hotel California - you can check in but you can never leave

Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole attached to a high jump pole attached to...well, you get the picture. And their salesman tell blatant lies on your doorstep. One VERY bad experience with them, the rest was crap!

Dido Harding regards her customers as cash cows.

Moo!

I would be wary of any supplier with a "lock in" clause at least on standard copper broadband. I can sort of understand with FTTC as I think there is an install cost they need to recover, but there is no such cost on regular broadband.

You CAN now move away from TalkTalk.

The technical aspects of various ISPs are very similar. The real world differences between ISPs comes when you consider the call-centre and support experience. Take a look at who regularly comes out top in Which? customer satisfaction surveys. Then take a look at The Utility Warehouse.

I am with talk talk & have been for years, but i made the mistake of also going with them regarding the landline, it means I have to go back to BT to enable me to go with another provider , and I just know if i go back to bt i will no doubt be without the internet for weeks or even months , to be honest I think all the providers are the same , useless

You always could move away, getting a MAC was easy, but they invent unpaid bills and then pass your account to a "firm" of solicitors (actually ONE guy who works for the council and handles their account in his spare time).

The solicitor then passes your account to a "debt collection agency" (based in the same office and, apparently the same guy) who then bombard you with threats of legal action if the bill (now plus fees well in excess of the original amount) isn't paid.

I'm not talking here from the position of someone who owed them money, my account was up to date and they issued a MAC, something they refuse to do if you owe them money, but 6 months later the solicitors letters started and a quick Google uncovered this as being something commonly done by Tiscali (as was) when customers moved.

I ended up with so many debt collectors' letters (the debt was sold on once a month) that it ended up BACK with the first one after a year and it was only when I pointed this out and suggested we just settled the matter in court the letters finally stopped.

After poor service we left them for BT, they then carried on billing us for 6 months finally appointing a firm of bailiffs who sent us threatening letters.
This was despite many phone calls and registered letters from us and verbal promises from them that it would be sorted.
We finally had to seek help from the ombudsmen who told us exactly what to write in a letter to the bailiffs, they, the ombudsmen then contacted TalkTalk who had to pay us compensation.

To be fair that was some time ago, maybe their customer services has improved since then but I wouldn't like to find out no matter what deal I was offered.

Been with Talk Talk for a number of years now without too many problems.

The reason I went with them was for their broadband/phone package which is probably the best and cheapest.

I've had two instances of having to use their customer service - this actually included a number of calls. The biggest issue, apart from getting through to South Africa, is they never actually make notes on their system - so the next time you phone because it hasn't been sorted you have to start from the beginning:bonk: AND the bloody musak while you are waiting:bang::bang:

Once I got through to a lovely lady in Preston and had excellent service - she sorted the problem really quickly and efficiently.

The biggest problem we have is an old exchange with overground lines which have gone brittle. Any potential supplier will have the same problem.

Downloading last night though showed 8 meg and when I look at claimed speeds for the village no other supplier comes anywhere near - can't work that out:shrug:

I have to agree though, when the broadband plays up it's a nightmare:shake:

We ended up with Tiscali (Talk Talk) but there isn't a great deal of choice where we live, and their ADSL has been fine. It's not very fast, but around 1.5 Mbps on the download - on a good day - is about average around here, and it's sufficient for us. The only snag, in several years, was a service outage that was a nightmare to resolve. Endless phone calls, "consultants" who didn't understand English very well and hadn't a clue what to do, lies about the cause of the problem, and meaningless promises; just to get you off the line. I finally got one of their more senior people, and she sorted it out in no time, but it was a struggle getting there.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the speeds the service providers cite. These are just the maximum speeds you can theoretically achieve, not the speeds you will actually get, and they're not part of the agreement. There have been a few suggestions that government will intervene and force the service providers to be more transparent, but I don't know where that will go.
