would appreciate some advice because im at a loss as to how to go about insuring this stuff..??

regards wes. :D

Have a look at Towergate Camerasure, and also Aviva.

I'm with Aviva at the moment for public liability, legal cover, gear coverage, etc. but I intend to switch over to Towergate in a few months (slightly better price and much better coverage).

Im going away on friday so was planning on finally getting round to taking insurance out tomorrow as I don't fancy loosing whats now about 3.5K of gear.

The majority of my stuff was bought new but theres a couple of lenses that I bought second hand and do not have receipts for... will that be a problem at all when insuring or do I just list it anyway?

Thanks.

All my gear is on my home policy and fully covered outside the home and abroad. I didn't have to name anything valued at under £4,000, which meant I didn't need to name a thing. My cover is unlimited and is with M&S. For buildings, contents and all my gear, computers, TVs etc. the premium was £311. I don't have cover for pro use, but I don't need it. Since I didn't have to name my gear, and my contents cover is "unlimited", the camera gear didn't add a penny to the premium. I even phoned and checked that my understanding was correct - the whole lot is covered for all risks. I also have £30 due to me in cash back for taking out the policy through TopCashback, making the net premium just £281.

When I got a quote from Aaduki the premium was as much just for my camera gear alone - £286 or something like that, I think.

It's worth doing a search on here and grab a beer and have a good read. Whatever you do, don't go with E & L. I sound like a stuck record. But i'd rather that than someone have problems with a claim.

Kev.

Just had a look on this Towergate Camerasure and it looks quite good....
just do not understand this sentence...
The first £250 of any claim for each and every loss....does it mean that I would have to pay 250 for every lost item ??

You would need to check - My insurance excess is against every claim. Possibly not the deal it looks! but I would be interested to know thier response if you investigate further.

The first £250 of any claim for each and every loss....

As far as I'm aware, a "loss" is basically a claim. So, if you had 2 cameras and 4 lenses go missing all at once, that lot would be one "loss" (or claim).

That's how it was explained to me when I got mine sorted out, but I hadn't noticed that specific wording used. Might be best to give them a call to find out - and it may depend on which policy you go for, they have several for different "levels" of photographer (hobbyist, semi-pro, pro, journalist, etc).

Mine is my house insurance which covers all of my camera gear at home and up to £5k valuables away from home - no need to notify any item unless it is worth over 10k (Hiscox). £500 excess though and the camera gear would be excluded if I ever used it professionally.

I recently discovered that EOS magazine do camera and equipment insurance for non-professional photographers.
When my policy with photoguard expires, I shall be joining them.
Judging by your kit list you could be looking at £50-£65 a year.

They insure Nikon gear? ;)
