How many of you take your cameras around all the time, like in the car boot or something?

The reason I ask is because I am always missing the shots because the camera is at home!

Last night I see a hot air balloon about to land near me, it was a nice one (not covered in advertising) and I need a picture for a comp of the theme (flight) so I rushed back to grab the cam and by the time I got too the balloon it was layed out across the ground.

I keep telling myself that I must start taking my camera bag out each time but just never do for some reason.

Just get into the habit of carrying a bag of some kind and keeping a camera in there, maybe a smaller bag you can keep your wallet, etc, in that you can also fit a camera in as well. I have a camera with me 99% of the time, even if it's my Olympus OM20 film SLR or my old Nikon D50 I now use as a knockabout camera. Its definitely always good having a camera that's immediately grabbable! :)

I always carry a compact, it lives in my jacket pocket, I find I'm taking pictures nearly every day with it.

If I'm working or going to a place where I know I'm intending to take pictures, then the D90 comes with me.

Everything else either I use my phone, the S230 (clubbing) or the m4/3rds Olympus pen (mostly street photography)

:)

If I'm expecting to see a photo, I'll take a decent compact if not the SLR kit but I've always got my mobile on me and any 1/2 reasonable pic is better than no pic at all!

Definitely a convert to pocket sized cameras that go everywhere. I used to prefer DSLR but now mainly use a GRD IV which is about the size as a pack of cigarettes yet still produces reasonable quality shots.

This just made me think about the d90 gathering dust as a second camera. Think I might let it live in the car now for any strange events or encounters I may come across

Ahh the joys of being a girl and carrying a handbag with you much of the time!

My trusty Canon S100 takes a very decent shot in most circumstances and fits in handbag or trouser pocket so is always at hand. Who was it that said the best camera is the one you have in your hand.

Usually the best camera is the one you left at home.

Reminds me of the four part mini series on ITV called Frankie's House. :)

I used to take my Sony compact with me everywhere (my emergency handbag camera ). But i've lost the charging station, so now I usually see a gorgeous sunset on the way back from the little one's hospital appointment or something and regret not having a camera .

This thread has made me think - I bought a 60d in December to replace my 1000d... which I was planning to sell, but now I'm thinking I might just leave it in the boot of the car most of the time.

I often drive past something and think it's a shame that I don't have my camera!

I've been incredibly lazy in not taking my camera out at all when going on walks. A lot of the time even if I did take it, I ended up with no shots. Really wish I hadn't lost my Lumix compact

Always a tricky one for me as I have had my car broken into on a number of occasions. Fortunately I have never had my camera taken just cd's and a baby seat!!

Every time I have any camera, dslr or compact, in my car I am always very nervous.

I work at a local hospital which overlooks some fields with pheasants and rabbits, and there are some gorgeous gnarled trees and the potential for the air ambulance helicopter to arrive (it always seems to when I'm on break!) But the only place I can leave my camera would be in my locker, and someone keeps trying to break into the lockers which makes me really nervous about leaving my Nikon there.

When I no we are working in certain places I tend to take my d90 with me mainly for wildlife ie buzzards kites etc also there are for a few places we go that are flight paths for military helicopters. But not seen one yet when I have my camera in the van. Every time I don't take it with me I see loads always the way I guess

It is cumbersome to carry a DSLR with you and the appropriate number of lenses.
For this reason, I made sure to get a decent company that fulfills my requirements.

Having said that... my most used camera is my phone!! I actually really enjoy taking photos with it :-)

I would say I shoot;

60% phone
25% compact
15% DSLR

There's always a camera in my work bag. More often than not its an Olympus Trip 35. At times when I can't be bothered taking it out I use the iPhone.

With the pretty low price yet good quality of compacts it is worth having one in the car that you can then put in your pocket and have with you all the time.

Really all depends on if the slight differences in IQ matter for those shots you wouldn't have got without it...

Not always. I've done around 400 flights in the last couple of years and carried a large DSLR on every single one of them, never once was it a pain to carry and I was always very thankful to have it when I wanted to shoot something.

Whether it's cumbersome is very dependant on how you shoot and what you want to do. If you're happy just taking photos on your phone and that suits your needs then sure, carrying a DSLR will seem cumbersome. A phone just doesn't cut it for me most of the time so carrying a DSLR seems very normal to me.

Horses for courses, as they say.

That's only because for the majority of time, I'm taking snapshots which is fine taken with whatever. This makes the DSLR a real treat to use.

It's cumbersome to me when I'm going to work on rollerblades, already have a stuffed backpack and would be a right pain to carry, a compact however, different story.

So yep... horses for courses :-)

I always take my camera with me, everywhere, even when it's raining, even on my pushbike. In fact I bought an Olympus E-510 for this very purpose (it's small). I used to have a 450D which was also just the right size for my handbag, but I upgraded to a 50D which was too heavy so when I needed a 2nd camera I got the Olympus.

That's a good idea. I try to carry my dslr most of the time but as the temperature raises for summer I tend to leave it at home. My compact can fit in my pocket so I don't have to ever miss a shot.

I usually have a film rangefinder in my work bag. My problem is that I always have colour film loaded when I bump into something that wants black and white film or b&w loaded when I run into something like a stunning sunset.

I would love one of the new breed compacts that gives shutter and aperture control but they are so expensive. hey.. Maybe when the next boat comes in.

Shoot it in colour, then scan the neg and convert to B/W :)

One weird thing about USA english is that where we say take they say bring. So if you ask to see someone they will say " I will bring you to him"

However that does allow them to say ABC ( Always Bring Camera )

Since buying an iPhone I don't carry a camera to anything any more! I find that with a steady hand and careful composition, I don't miss it at all!

This part of the South West is balloon heaven and I always keep a camera close. The big fiesta is a fantastic opportunity to see multiple baloon ascents and the nightglow awesome (weather permitting)

It is in early August tbis year and well worth nringing your brightest lenses.

The morning mass ascents leaves the Bristol skyscape full off early morning picture opportunities.

What was the Sony, Kelly? I have a DSC-P200 that broke but still have the leads etc...

I try and keep my compact in my pocket for when I've not got my DSLR with me. However, it's a common occurrence that I'll take it out, switch it on and find that the memory card is full of 200 almost identical pictures of my daughter's eye, or her painted nails, or the cat, and the battery is 10 seconds away from empty.

I actually bought another one because of this, and the new one seems to be getting it worse.

The camera on my phone is pants, so I only use it sparingly.

Try to have mine with me most of the time if not just use my phone ...had some great pics out and about

d7000 is always in back of landy, unfortunately almost all the best potential shots are seen when banging along the M62 with the next turnoff 10 miles away !

When I leave it at home I always feel something is missing.
