Taking you camera out

Actually, they do. Ask a pro gear insurer.

But all DSLRs are expensive, and your average chav street mugger won;t know a D80 from a D800... he'll just see Nikon. If he sees no name, it won't fool them... it's a DSLR and probably at least worth a few hundred quid. It's not as if you can buy a Tesco Value DSLR for £10... they're ALL expensive, and ALL a target... logos taped or not.

Plus... how would the insurance company know you had taped it or not? The theif will obviously remove the tape before fencing it.

Utter nonsense... tape it if it makes you feel better.. but it's pointless.

I agree... trendy "street photographer" fashion.

have to disagree in some situations, good example is recently in Northern irland, a press photographer had his nice bright 70-200 and camera taken from him because the grey stood out, another had the grey covered in tape and wasn't spotted, makes sense to do it to me

Absolute balls.

The camera was nicked because it was still out on a strap. The other two photographers had stowed their's.

Besides which, it wouldn't have mattered. They were targeted.

That has more to do with the type of gear that's insured via those companies than what's being knicked in general.

i have a bit of tape on the top of my body to stop rubbing as the paint is prone to wear, tho saying that its all gone on around the shutter button so not sure why i bother

There's no possibly about it. Taping had nothing to do with the incident.
