Hi

Can anyone give me any tips for getting some half decent shots please? Went to an event today just to practice and the rides were under trees, sky was grey (before a really heavy downpour).

I just really struggled to get a fast enough shutter speed.

Any tips please?

I tried av and tv.

if it were me i'd use a tripod and go for slower shutter speeds to show some motion blur

I wouldn't be bothered about the light as i'd do it at night to get the brightly coloured lights

I'd be inclined to get some really nice light trails with a slow shutter speed of a few of seconds.

Hi

There are so many options aren't there - I'd definately start with a sturdy tripod and experiment with ISO, apeture and shutter speed combinations to get some decent blur with crisp background/foreground detail. I'd prefer the low ISO route for quality and experiment with some fill flash - maybe with 2nd curtain setting to emphasise the motion yet gain some detail?

If it's at night then shots like this work well for fairgrounds.

What ISO were you on, surely you could get a decent shutter speed at 1600? If not tripod it.

why would you want to though? more interesting photo with motion to it, and the patterns the lights create
