Good morning,

I m taking my 7 year old boy to his first Premier League game at Old Trafford this weekend. He is really excited about it and I would like to take my Fuji xpro1 plus 10-24mm lens with me to take few photographs with him outside the satdium and few inside. it's not really clear on their website whether I can take my camera with me inside the satdium?

Does anyone know from experience if I can take a small camera plus lens with me to Premier League stadiums?

Many thanks

They state small compact cameras [pocketable] are allowed, I guess if you can prove it fits in your jacket pocket it should be ok [not sure about that with the 10-24?] What they don't allow are larger bodies with telephoto lenses, for obvious reasons. I've seen many in-stadium photos from FB contacts where they used either bridge cameras or dslr with a small [kit] lens. If you take the chance and get stopped, they do have storage available, it's £5 and the money does go to charity. They recommend arriving a couple hours early if you want to use the storage - this would give you plenty of time to get the shots outside with your son before entering.

I'd suggest using a much neater lens, do you happen to have any pancake lenses like the 18mm F2? that would be more ideal for this situation, otherwise might be just best to use your phone

Thanks. I saw this pdf but their text on their website says no camera or electronic device bigger than 15x10cm?

I think you'd be taking a risk with the 10-24, it'll depend on who searches you going in too. You could just chance the 'it's basically a compact with wide angle' - but you need to be prepared for refusal. Same going into any gig really. I've taken camera bags with dslr and lenses into big gigs in the past, other times been told to get rid. Seems to depend more on who's checking than what the rules on their website state.

i've taken cameras into games quite a few times (not old Trafford) even d5200 with 35mm and go stopped but they were more than reasonable with my reasons (just like yours) and think they realised id need to be on the pitch to get any kind of pictures.

i honestly believe most (not all) grounds are reasonable

Part of it is they don't want random spectators taking pro quality photos from the stands, but also they don't want you waving about a lens that could be used as a weapon, not to mention it'll irritate everyone around you in a tight crowd. If it's a neat set up, and you assure them it's only good for wide shots where the players will be more like ants, they're usually ok most venues. The searches are more for dangerous objects, liquids, food stuffs etc .. only big lenses are going to catch their attention
