I am forever seeing a brilliant photo opportunity and not having the camera with me! On Friday I went to Scan computers in Bolton and they had a formula one racing car in the shop !

Do you all take them out in the car with you? I am concerned about having the camera stolen or bashed about leaving it in the car. I was even thinking of keeping my wife's D40x in the car when I find her a nice D200 2nd hand after selling my R2400 (or finding a swap).

What does everyone else do.

You could always get a lockbox of some kind for the boot to keep your kit in.

It's where I find a half decent mobile phone camera gets used. No way I'd take my SLR everywhere - although it is of course sods law that next time I go somewhere will find some amazing thing to shoot!

Camera goes with me to pretty much most places, even goes on business meetings.

I take my camera everywhere even to work i have a strap that attaches to my camera bag in the boot so it does not get bashed about !!!

I take mine everywhere. I take the crumpler bag to work and one or two lenses, nothing more. A good walkabout Edinburgh at lunch is good fun (well, compared to sitting at my desk eating lunch).

Once went for a walk without my camera and missed a shot of a Cuckoo chick being fed by a (i think) Meadow Pippit. It was amazing seeing this great greedy bird stood on a rock being fed by it's tiny "parent" Kicked myself all the way back home (in between being kicked by SWMBO)

I take my kit with me most days in the truck, I am high up and I don't have to get out in the rain.

I try and take my SLR everywhere with me but in some places I am a bit too embarassed to use it or it is inappropriate - I then take my G9 compact with me - not as good as the SLR but not at all bad either and it lets me control quite a lot on the shot.

I've started taking the camera out with me more and more, it's no hastle just to stick it into the car. If we're leaving the car un-attended for a decent amount of time, i'll take the bag with me.

I'm with Raphael. I take the SLR on trips etc but for general travel ie work i keep the G9 in the glovebox

I will take the 40D etc to most places where convenient, and the Canon G6 otherwise.

nope, use the phone instead, theres so much technology these days its easy enoguh to manipulate a photograph. unless you want real detail i dont see the point.

If I ever drive anywhere of interest I will take it on the off-chance that I can snap something. Wouldn't take it when I go to buy new computer stuff though!

I take mine whenever we travel anywhere, but not to the shops etc. I have a smaller backpack for walkabout, which I just decamp some of my kit into, then the full backpack with everything in. I think my wife's just got used to it now.

I carry a Panasonic Lumix compact with me. It's limited in what it can do (although 8mp) but for those grab shots it's brilliant. It's also tiny and sits in the pocket or strapped to my belt in a tiny Lowe Pro case.

Maybe I shouldn't have given my daughter the IXUS when I bought the D200!

There have been a number of occasions when I just wish I'd had the camera with me: At work - air display going on overhead with harrier hovering 200ft away at my height with me on the eighth floor, coming home from work at about 7am mist is really thick but only 8inches high and flowing through trees like a river, coming home from shopping and saw a girl with bright orange hair that looked like side show bob and now formula one racing car in local shop!

None of these would normally be times I would even have considered taking the camera!

Always got my 'phone in my pocket - OK, only a Sony Ericsson K800i with 3.2MP but it's OK for snaps. I've very often got my Oly Mju770SW in a pocket as well - a resonable step up from a camera phone.

I take the SLR out on any trip where it's likely I'll get a good shot or two (say a walk around a park or something). For all other occasions, I've got a compact which can easily be stowed (in the glovebox for example). Sure it's no SLR, but it's still a decent camera, and we all know that cameras don't take good photos, photographers do. ;)

I take the whole kit and caboodle everywhere with me - I might occasionally leave the flash and macro at home but otherwise I'm never without (hence my sets from homebase, tescos, garden centres, lakeside :))

Mind you it drives my wife potty :D but thats life :D
