Taking camera into Butterfly House

Taking the kids to a butterfly house this weekend.

Any precautions I should take with my camera (Panasonic GX80) when entering/exiting? I know apparently putting it inside a plastic ziplock bag is advised but I can't remember if that's for going in or coming out!

I know humidity isn't ideal but I'm hoping it should be OK once I get inside.
 
I used my GX7 in Butterfly World earlier this year with no humidity issues or special precautions but I did have another problem as I used the mechanical shutter and a lens affected by shutter shock and unfortunately all of my shots were affected to one degree or another. I've since used another MFT camera, my G7, at the Eden Project with no issues.

Apart from that... you may want to dial in a shutter speed fast enough to freeze the butterflies, other than that, good luck and I hope you enjoy the visit :D
 
Dont expect to shoot straight away if going from cold to hot and humid as the lens wil mist up. Take a cleaning cloth just in case, but a few minutes in and it'll be fine, perhaps a quick wipe over with a cloth. It may take 5-10 mins for the camera/glass to warm up before it stops misting. Depends on how cold the camera is.
I also have a microfibre cloth for the body (useful in drizzle as well).

I took mine to the Tropical Butterfly House and Wildlife Centre in Dinnington last year in August so it wasn't particularly cold, but it took a very long time to stop misting over (more than 20mins). I don't think the fact that my lens has a 95mm front element though, folk with compacts were snapping away without issue :facepalm: :lol:
 
I put my camera in a plastic bag tightly wrapped and leave it in there for 10 minutes while I'm walking round looking for butterflies then take it out and good to go
Just bring a lens cloth in case you still get a bit of condensation :)

Would a small desiccant bag in there help also or not required?

I used a couple of reusable gel hand warmers and packed them around the lens. No misting up at all. Next time I went I didn't use them and it took 15 minutes before the lens stopped misting up.
