Wacom are the best- which model depends on how you like to work. If you are an artist and use big stroke movements you'll need a larger size. Most illustrators I know use the large intuos 4 although 1 uses the bamboo to be fair.
For photo editing a smaller size can be all you need but again it depends how you draw.

If you don't really know how you work or if you will even like them as they do take a lot of effort when you start using them, I'd suggest something like the bamboo touch. If that is too small then you can always upgrade- better than paying £500 and not liking it.

Reminds me- I thought I heard they have a new product where you actually draw on paper and it replicates it digitally or something- could be interesting if it works. Must make some enquiries- in fact slightly OT has anyone used one or have I just invented it- was that my dragons den moment?:lol:

My experiences of non-Wacom models (I have both a Wacom Intuos4 M and A4 Aiptek) is that you get what you pay for. The Aiptek is unusable by comparison and yes, I know one cost 4x the other, but it's the difference between it being usable and unusable.

@dr_o.

I know what you mean, saw it in pc world earlier, it's bloody expensive though..179 for the pen. You use it to write in a special notepad and it stores everything you write/draw, then you plug it into a computer and you can digitise it. Clever, but how useful it'll prove for that money I dunno!

On topic, a bamboo pen and touch is about 65 quid, worth every penny. Takes awhile to get used to, but when it clicks you'll wonder how you ever coped with a mouse!
