Searching around for a new tablet, I came across the Chuwi HiBook. The reviews look promising and the spec is pretty amazing for the money.

So....

1. Has anybody used a Chuwi HiBook? Or any Chuwi? Reviews say good build quality but I'd like unbiased opinions ;)

2. Is buying from Gearbest and the like safe? Do I need to factor in customs charges? Their site talks about an EU warehouse but I can't figure out where they will actually ship from.

Never used (or heard of) Chuwi, but bought a few things from Gearbest in the past with no issues. If shipped from China then best to factor in customs charges, but shouldn't be an issue if shipped from Europe (I think). Banggood are a very similar company, never had issues with them either.

I use a similar tablet (size and Win10, no Android), the Linx 1010b. Not quite as powerful as the one you mentioned, but very good for basic browsing, using office etc. I keep it with me most of the time and it's fine if I suddenly need to do something work wise. I just tether it to my phone for WiFi and then have access to the full version of office. Works great for what I needed and saves carrying a laptop around.

like all cheap tech, you can get great performance for the money, but don't expect any updates :)
