I'm looking for a tablet for my mum's birthday. It has to have a decent screen for watching iPlayer etc, but doesn't need to be mega fast - she only needs it for web browsing, viewing photos and viewing videos. Our budget is up to £200. Any suggestions please?

Tesco had one for £99 called connect it was a 10' tablet with Windows 10 got it for the mother in law who is 80

An older iPad or samsung tablet if you're happy to buy a 2nd hand unit ???

Have a look at the latest Kindles. I have a 7" Kindle Fire which is a much earlier version than the current ones but I'm quite impressed by the quality of the display. The web browser might not be quite as slick as the ones we are familiar with from desktop PCs but it works without any problems.

Tesco are doing the Amazon Fire HD 10, 10.1", Tablet, 16GB, WiFi - Black (2015) for £169 http://www.tesco.com/direct/amazon-...k-2015/679-6629.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=679-6629

If you look at Argos Outlet on ebay they have nice Lenovo Android tablets for £70 or so delivered. I just bagged one for myself, but also bought 12 of them 6 months ago for an ICT intro teaching programme for elderly Asian women. They proved popular. Screen is decent and so is all round operation. The Android is pretty vanilla so not lots of junk apps to clear out.

Nexus 7 2013 32Gb can be found c.£130, I've had no problems with mine and my mum's been using hers for over a year and loves it. The 7" tablets are a nice size that balances portability with a decent screen size.

Hudl2 is a cracking tablet screen is very good also

Hudl have a good rep for a budget. Nexus If you want to spend a bit more.

To be honest though I just got a new larger screen phone and haven't picked up my tablet since.

Have a look at a used ipad4 or even iPad Air 1.

I've been to John Lewis today and they do have a clearance corner there. Some bargains to be had, I'm sure there is something like that in every store.

Make sure that an item from their clearance shelf is complete and working...

You've got warranty like any other product. It's not sold as seen as far as I'm aware.

I would get an iPad rather than an android tablet for any "mum" event! I made the mistake of getting my mum and Android tablet and it was too hard for her to get around. I got her an iPad as replacement and she loves it because it's very "back to basics" meaning that there's not a lot to go wrong.. ;)

Still a royal PITA when you get it home and it doesn't work!

Thanks for all the advice guys. I went for a yoga tab 3 in the end.
