Can anyone recommend me some decent on-line or book tutorials for using a graphics tablet.

I have had one for a while now and I just seem to be forever being frustrated with it. It is not a one of the Wacom or other major names but it does work but I just want some tips on how to improve my work-flow and to stop me reaching for the mouse.

Thanks in advance.

Practice, practice, practice, once you get into it you will never touch a mouse again..

I have big fat fingers, my mouse feels good in my hand, desk space for keyboard and tablet, I am not sure about scrolling - can I do that with the keyboard?, writers cramp, I tend to look at the tablet and not the screen, I keep chewing the pen,

Some of the problems I am having.

Scrolling on keyboard - try your Page up/page down keys

Chewing the pen - LeaveIT (as I say to my young dog multiple times a day) - keep a different pen specifically for chewing

Looking at the tablet/pen - put them in an upside down box with a hole to put your hand though so you can't see it

Do not hold the pen so hard. I never tend to put mine down when I am working, whilst I am typing it is just loosly held by the crook of my thumb ready to use

See - all sorted :D

As above it is just a case of practicing, use it not only for graphics stuff, but for all computer use, if it doesn't become second nature, maybe you aren't a tablet person, like anything ergonomic it may not work for everyone.

The best tip i was given by far was unplug the mouse and put it away, then it's so much faff to go back to using it that you won't bother and persevere. It does take much longer than you think it will though - remember you have been using a mouse for years...

keep a ciggy in your mouth :D

use it for web

I have keyboard to my left with hand for shortcuts and tablet on my right for using as mouse

I have been using a tablet for the last two weeks with lightroom, and find it pretty nifty.
As every one is saying give it some time and you will soon get there, everyone is different when it comes to getting used to something new.
I tried different positions with the tablet and my laptop, it can be fiddly however when you get into the zone you wont notice you aren't using your mouse !!:eek:

Hmm think I may try a tablet. Although my logitech MX518 is nice.

Thanks for all the tips apart from the ciggy one. :p

I must admit I have found myself trying to use it for surfing and that does seem to be helping.
