T&C's of a couple of sites

These are similar but on the face of it I'm happier with flickr, what does everyone else think?

Flickrs are ok...

All they want is the license to show them worldwide, which they need, as the internet is world wide. They specify "solely for the purpose for which such photo or graphic was submitted to the service" - i.e. what license you chose.

A.N Other want a license to reproduce and distribute in any format they want, and use them for promotion of their websites.

Or at least thats how I read it :shrug:

Flick's licence has to allow them to "reproduce, modify and adapt" so that they can mirror and back up their site, and re-size your images for thumbnail display etc. It's really about the most minimal set of rights they could reasonably ask for.

The other is far more exploitative. The right to "prepare derivative works" means they can basically do whatever they like with it - e.g. photoshop your head onto somebody else's body - and then they own the copyright to the end product, so there's nowt you can do about it. Avoid!
