Systematic approach to LR5

Is there a systematic approach to post processing in LR, ie which of the bells and whistles do adjust and in what order, or is it totally image dependent?

I feel I'm going round in circles but I suppose it's symptomatic of being a newbie to PP! I also have PSE11 installed but I haven't dared venture there so far, other than to confirm it 'fires-up'.

Any recommendations from the seasoned veterans, or from others who are not so well accustomed.

All advice gratefully received.
Steve.

It can be done in any order. It's up to you really.

Personally I start from the top and work my way down, but that doesn't mean I won't go back to make further adjustments later.

Thanks, I suppose to say there may be a systematic method is inappropriate to what basically is Art. Top to bottom seems reasonable, but I find I'm spending an inordinate amount of time going backwards and forwards, resetting, starting again looking for the perfect picture.

Top-to-bottom in the basic panel is the current wisdom, although going back to an earlier slider is sometimes needed in the light of subsequent adjustments.

Bear in mind you had keep changing the sliders as many times as you like and in any order. Lightroom will apply them in it's own sequence internally to reflect your efforts.

Going backwards and forwards can be aided (I think) using virtual copies - lots of them if need be - you can then contrast and compare different adjustments and effects to your heart's content.

Anthony.

Thanks Anthony.
I'm not sure how you get LR to make virtual copies, but I'll have a route around.
Cheers

On LR4, just select your required photos, right click and select virtual copies.

have a google for serge ramelli french togger he does a lot with lightroom

You need a book and or tutorials via YouTube. You cannot fly blind into it especially as you're inexperienced in pp. You ll end up driving yourself crazy going round in circles and get disillusioned. Scott Kelby does some very useful stuff.

Yeah 'flying' IMC without experience is getting to me, as you say, I'm going round in circles. It's probably akin to walking in the desert without a compass; walking in circles is inevitable. I've ordered Victoria Bampton's book 'real answers to real questions asked by Lightroom users'. I hope it helps.
I've book marked Scott Kelby and will look it up tomorrow.
Thank you very much for taking the time to reply.
