Hi,

Just wondering if there is a "proper" way to go about editing using both these programs?

Say for example I had a pic that needs something cloning out.

Is it best to do all my lightroom tweaks first then edit in photoshop or the other way round? or does it not really matter?

What do other people do?
cheers
Neil

I'd do all my tweaking etc. before cloning.

If you catalogue your images and use keywords, I think doing everything you can in LR first and then finishing off in PS is probably best. Using 'Save' in PS then automatically adds the file to LR with keywords attached and grouped with the original.

In LR right click on the image and choose Edit in, then Photoshop. You will be prompted whether you want to edit the original, a copy or a copy with LR Adjustments. Once you have finished in PS click save and LR will create a edited copy in your library.

Or you could create a virtual copy of your image in LR and work on that in the same way.

This is how I switch between both programs, I ALWAYS access the image via LR and very rarely directly.

hi, thanks for the replies.
I do everything through lightroom too - even launch photoshop to edit a specific picture. I was thinking more from a workflow point of view

Personally I do any major adjustments outside of LR first.
Where possible I try to most of the work in LR only, depends on the image and what you are trying to achieve with it.
I'd say do what you are comfortable with as long as you have a good version control.

I used to use both but got confused with the number of files that get created and the different versions. Now i just make any edit in LR then create a virtual copy and edit the virtual copy in PS.

As Steve I tend to do anything major first by opening the image from LR into PS (via right click) then I do the cloning/cutting pasiting/etc to "fix" the image then back to LR to match it to the rest colour/exposure wise.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but on a similar subject, is it possible that when I export from Lightroom and open in PS that it will automatically batch process an action that I've created?

I know it doesn't take long for me to go to file>automate>batch>(select settings)>ok but any way to speed the process is a good thing.

I don't think so offhand (I may be wrong) you could create a doplet on desktop or somewhere and just drag the image or folder into that to apply an action.

If you are exporting to Photoshop you could also use Image processor, File - scripts - Image processor, here you can run an action, add copyright, resize etc all at once.
You can also do this via Bridge.

I think he wants it to run automatically in the export/open in photoshop step.

Handy to know about Image processor as well though.
