This was the point of my thread really. It's just plain silly. A couple stars don't change the word, we all know what it is so print it or delete it altogether if you find it objectionable. It is no less offensive as 'f***' than it is fully lettered. This has always been a thing which has boggled my mind too.
Example today, I think on the front of the 'i' newspaper was a picture of a guy carrying a placard which said "frack off". Everyone knows the word alluded to, but the word 'frack' is fine to write. If on the other hand he had used the four letter variant, it would have been f*** with asterisks. Again, we all KNOW what the word is - the only difference is the asterisks rather than the u,c,k letters. So it can only be the shape of the letters which offends us (since we all know what the word itself is)?
I don't have an issue with any collection of letters (since that's all they are), but I remain baffled by why there's a swoon-fest when four letters are shown in a certain order, yet when they are masked it's fine, despite everyone knowing what is meant.
We're a strange lot.
Word replacement would be cool I agree, and so much funnier.
